HIGHLANDERS PLAY BACK-TO-BACK HOSTING UNC ASHEVILLE AND WINTHROP



RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team will continue Big South play at home this weekend hosting UNC Asheville and Winthrop. The first match will be Friday night at 7 p.m., with the second match against Winthrop on Saturday at 4 p.m.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS (14-3, 4-2 BIG SOUTH)
•  The Highlanders are coming off a rebound conference victory against Presbyterian, after dropping two straight conference matches to High Point and Liberty.
•  The Highlanders lead the Big South in opponent's hitting percentage, holding them to a .157 hitting percentage.
•  Radford has a higher average kill per set compared to their two opponents this weekend, with an average of 12.65 kills per set.
•  Reigning Big South Defensive Player of the Week, Haley Kleespies is second in the Big South with an average 9.4 assists per set.
•  Maddie Palmer leads the Big South in average points per set (50th in NCAA), with 4.52.
 
SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE (8-9, 4-2 BIG SOUTH)
•  Series: Radford leads 29-27 (Last Meeting: October 29, 2016 | W, 3-2)
•  The Bulldogs bring in an 8-9 record, with half of their wins coming in Big South play putting them tied for second place with the Highlanders in the conference standings.
•  UNC Asheville has not won a road game this year as three losses came from the Tallahassee Seminole Tournament where they lost to No. 15 Florida State, Colorado State, and TCU.
•  Cara Guthrie is second in the Big South in points per set, averaging 4.31 per set.
•  The Bulldogs are averaging only 12.45 digs per set - last in the Big South - and 2.4 less than Radford.
•  Cecilia Stack leads her team with 39 blocks, which accounts for more than half of the team's total blocks (77).
 
SCOUTING WINTHROP (12-8, 3-3 BIG SOUTH)

•  The Eagles, like the Bulldogs, have a losing record on the road at 3-4 with all their Big South wins coming at home.
•  Prior to Saturday's match, Winthrop will face Liberty at the nearby Vines Center on Friday night.
•  Winthrop is second in the Big South - just behind Radford - in opponent hitting percentage, at .177.
•  The Eagles are third in the Big South for service aces (122, averaging 1.58 per set), with Hannah Lackey recording a team-high 23.
•  Carlie Skelton leads her team with 317 digs on the season, while the rest of her team has recorded 1,107 digs.

After two home conference matches, the Highlanders will head south for two road conference games against Charleston Southern and UNC Asheville. The first match against Charleston Southern is slated for 7 p.m. on Friday, with the second match against UNC Asheville slated for 4 p.m. on Saturday.
