RADFORD TRAVELS TO CHARLESTON SOUTHERN AND UNC ASHEVILLE FOR WEEKEND MATCHES



RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team will travel to two different states over the weekend as they visit Charleston Southern on Friday night at 7 p.m., and take on UNC Asheville Saturday at 4 p.m.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS (16-3, 6-2 BIG SOUTH)

•  The Highlanders (16-3, 6-2 Big South) have won six straight sets, which propelled them to two wins last weekend against UNC Asheville and Winthrop.
•  Maddie Palmer needs 10 digs to be the fifth player in Radford history – second in the rally scoring era – to record 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.
•  Last Friday, Mallory McKnight stepped up in the middle tying a career-high 16 kills and recorded a .560 hitting percentage.
•  It was a total team effort in the win over Winthrop as the Highlanders picked up 51 kills and had a .342 hitting percentage.
•  The Highlanders are averaging 13 kills per set and have 939 kills to opponents 775.
•  Radford is outscoring its opponents 1,617-1,377 and have outscored them by 102 in the third set alone.
•  Palmer leads the team with 282 kills and is averaging 3.92 kills per set and has a team-high 228 digs.
•  Amaya Rousseau has 52 total blocks, which leads the team.
 
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN (8-14, 3-5 BIG SOUTH)
•  Series: Radford leads 35-14 (Last Meeting: November 10, 2016 | W, 3-0)
•  The Buccaneers (8-14, 3-5 Big South) is coming off a straight set loss at Liberty on Saturday and previously defeated Gardner-Webb in four sets on Oct. 13.
•  Hannah Western leads Charleston Southern offensively with 2.41 kill per set, while Kylie Klein is averaging 2.26 kills per set and is sixth in the Big South in hitting percentage (.296). 
•  Kalysia Bates averages 2.23 kills per set and ranks first in the league in blocks per set (1.07). 
•  Madison Martin continues to lead the Bucs defensively with 4.71 digs per set. Rachel Smith is fourth in the Big South in assists per set (9.15).
• CSU is 4-2 at home this season and is averaging 11.31 kills per set as a team.
 
SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE (9-11, 5-4 BIG SOUTH)
•  Series: Radford leads 30-27 (Last Meeting: October 13, 2017 | W, 3-1)
•  UNC Asheville's (9-11, 5-4) road win at Presbyterian College earlier this week allowed the Bulldogs to take over sole possession of third place in the Big South Conference. 
•  The Bulldogs enter the weekend leading the league at 1.71 service aces per set. Three players are presently among the top-10 in the conference in the category in KK Haley (third – 0.43), Sheridan Salisbury (sixth – 0.37) and Cara Guthrie (eighth – 0.33).
•  As a team, the Bulldogs rank 12th nationally in service aces.
•  Guthrie is currently third in the league in both kills (3.84) and points (4.34) per set, while Ava Venema is in the top-10 in the league in hitting percentage at .295 (eighth).
•  UNC Asheville is 5-0 at home this season, with four wins coming against Big South competition.
