RADFORD, Va. – In only her second start of the season, sophomore goalkeeper Courtenay Kaplan made some huge saves, but the Radford women's soccer team ultimately fell to Big South-foe Liberty, 1-0, in double overtime at Cupp Stadium.

Kaplan tallied six saves on the night with two of the biggest coming late in the match. With just over three minutes remaining in regulation and a scoreless game looming, Liberty's Gabrielle Farrell got an excellent look on goal off a corner kick. The cross came in and over the Radford defense before she volleyed the ball on frame, but Kaplan was equal to it and made a diving save to her left.

The Leesburg, Va. native came up big again late in the first overtime period, making another sprawling save on a rocketed shot from 20 yards out to keep the Flames off the scoreboard.

She would finally be beaten however, as the Flames scored the game-winning golden goal in the second minute of the second overtime. A turnover in the Highlanders' third of the pitch fell to Aly Hill who dribbled past the defense and played the ball to Isabella Habuda for the decisive finish.

With the loss, the Highlanders fall to 8-4-0 overall and 1-3-0 in Big South play while Liberty stays perfect with a 3-0-1 record in conference play and a 5-5-3 tally overall.

Radford's best chance came in the 42nd minute when sophomore forward Nelia Perez made a sharp run down the right flank, cut back inside and delivered a cross for junior midfielder Jasmine Casarez whose snap header went wide. She finished with a team-leading six shots.

The Highlanders have struggled in overtime games as of late, going 0-7-1 in their last eight matches needing extra time. The last Radford overtime victory came in 2014.
