RADFORD HOSTS UNCG TUESDAY IN EDUCATION DAY ACTION



GAME INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Starting the third full week of the season, Radford (2-1) will be playing its fourth contest, while UNC Greensboro (4-2) will be playing its seventh game.
  • The Highlanders have already played two of their four non-conference games against foes from the Tar Heel State.
  • UNC Greensboro in return will also play four non-conference games against intuitions from the Commonwealth of Virginia. The Spartans defeated VCU 74-61 on Nov. 21 with games remaining against Virginia and Norfolk State.
  • Radford is 2-0 in Education Day games at home, outscoring opponents 146-107. The Spartans will be the third team from North Carolina to play at Radford in an Education Day matinee.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Despite UNC Greensboro leading the all-time series 11-8, Radford has won the last three matchups, including a 70-54 decision a season after a dominating first half.
  • Destinee Walker paced four Highlanders in double-figures with 20 points on an 8 for 12 performance from the floor. Walker also grabbed 10 rebounds.
  • Sydney Nunley chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds off the bench.
  • Radford shot 49.1 percent from the field, including a 42.1 clip from behind the arc.
  • The Highlanders turned 10 offensive rebounds into 14 second chance points.
  • UNC Greensboro's last win in the all-time series came in a 73-58 decision on Dec. 12, 2010.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Last time out, sophomore guard Khiana Johnson made the most of her first collegiate start as she poured in a career-high 18 points as Radford cruised to a 60-41 victory over Tennessee Tech on Nov. 20 in the third all-time meeting between the two foes.
  • Johnson tallied 11 of her 18 points in the second half, surpassing her previous career best of 15 against Western Carolina on Dec. 8, 2016. In the game, Johnson's 18 points came on 9 of 13 shooting from the floor.
  • Through the first three games, Johnson leads the team with 13.0 points per game.
  • Following Johnson's 18-point performance, Destinee Walker finished with 16 points off the bench, building Radford's first half lead with 12 points in the first 20 minutes.
  • The double-digit performance was the second on the season for Johnson and the 15th of her career. Walker now has 29 career double-figure games with two on the year.
  • Rounding out the Highlanders' scoring, Janayla White finished with nine points and Jayda Worthy chipped in seven points and a team-high nine rebounds.
  • Lydia Rivers matched a career best with four blocks as she is now tied with White with the team lead of five blocks.
  • From the field, Radford finished 26 for 54 for a season-high 48.1 field goal percentage. The Highlanders dominated the paint 30-18.
  • Radford's defense forced 18 Tennessee Tech turnovers, turning them into 21 points.
  • The Highlander defense is forcing 18.7 turnovers per game, while averaging 14.7 ppg off opponent miscues.
  • On the other side of the ball, Radford ranks fourth nationally in fewest turnovers with only 46, averaging 15.3 per contest.
  • Radford's defense leads the country with a 17.8 three-point field goal percentage defense.
  • That same defense is limiting opposing teams to only 53.3 ppg, ranking 16th nationally.
  • Moving their feet on defense, the Highlanders have only committed 45 fouls, which is best in the nation, committing only 15 per game.
  • Offensively, Radford sports four players shooting over 35 percent from the field.
  • White leads the team with a 56.3 field goal percentage, while Worthy follows with a 47.6 clip.
  • As team, Radford holds a 37.0 shooting percentage, ranking sixth in the league.
  • From behind the arc, Jen Falconer leads the team with a 46.2 percentage, which ranks third best in the Big South.
 
SCOUTING UNC GREENSBORO
  • After starting the season 3-0, UNC Greensboro has dropped two out of its last three, falling 72-61 to Campbell in its last contest on Nov. 25.
  • The Spartans hold a 1-1 in road contests to start the 2017-18 campaign.
  • UNC Greensboro is averaging 72.0 ppg, led by three players averaging double figures.
  • Nadine Soliman leads the team with 15.0 ppg and 86.2 free throw percentage.
  • Following Soliman are Brandi Fier with 11.0 ppg and Te'ja Twitty with 10.2 per contest.
  • Fier is the team's leading distributer with 29 assists, averaging 4.8 per game.
  • Ije Ajemba leads the SoCon in rebounding with 10.7 per game, ranking 34th nationally.
  • Through six games, Ajemba has racked up 64 boards, 20 on the offensive glass.
  • As a team, UNC Greensboro is shooting 44.5 percent from the field, but just 21.3 from downtown.
  • The Spartan defense has limited opponents to 54.3 ppg, giving UNC Greensboro a +17.7 scoring margin.
 
UP NEXT
  • After wrapping up November play, Radford begins December action up the road as the Highlanders take on Virginia Tech on Dec. 3 in a 2 p.m. New River Valley showdown inside the Cassell Coliseum.
  • The Highlanders are looking to snap a seven-game skid to the Hokies in the first matchup not played on Dec. 21 since 2009.
  • Radford's last win in the all-time series came on Nov. 10, 2006 with a 67-60 win in Blacksburg.
  • Virginia Tech leads the all-time series 26-9 with a 15-4 record at home.
