RADFORD HEADS TO HIGH POINT, SEEKING BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIES



SETTING THE STAGE
  • After ending its losing streak Thursday night, the Radford men's basketball team will look to begin a win streak Saturday night when it travels to High Point for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
  • The Highlanders are seeking their first back-to-back Big South victories since opening league play 2-0.
  • Last meeting: Radford rallied after a slow start, but High Point pulled out a 61-58 win on Jan. 21, as Miles Bowman Jr. scored the Panthers' final 11 points.
  • Series History: Radford leads 22-20, but High Point has won three straight, including a 77-60 decision on its homecourt last year. The Highlanders had won three in a row at the Millis Center before that and are 9-11 there all-time.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 10-15, 5-8
  • Radford is coming off a season-best shooting performance in the victory over Charleston Southern, while connecting on 54 percent of its 3-pointers (14 of 26), with four different players making at least two and three connecting on three or more.
  • Justin Cousin made five from long range for the fourth time in a conference game and he ranks second in the league with 43 total and 3.3 per game. For the season, he is third in the Big South with 65 treys, making at least three in 15 of the 25 contests, while leading the team with 11.2 ppg.
  • Caleb Tanner is 7 for 17 behind the arc in the last two games and stands third in 3-point percentage during conference at play at 42.9, just ahead of Cousin (42.6).
  • As a team, the Highlanders are third in the league with 8.6 made 3's per game and fourth in percentage (37.1). They have made 10 or more 3's seven times on the year.
  • Ed Polite, Jr. equaled a career-high with his five assists Thursday night in addition to his 13 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocks. He is now averaging 10.7 ppg, 9.4 rpg and 1.9 steals per game, ranking first and third in the latter two categories. In Big South games, he is also tied for fourth in blocks (1.3).
  • Nationally, Polite, Jr. stands 36th in defensive rebounds per game, 39th in total rebounds per game and 50th in steals per game.
  • Christian Bradford dished out 13 assists in the last two games and at least five in three of the last four outings. He is now second in conference play with 4.2 per game and third overall at 3.7. Bradford also stands fourth with a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
  • Donald Hicks' 11-point outing against Charleston Southern was his eighth double-digit performance of the season. He has also totaled 20 rebounds during the last three games.
  • Darius Bolstad went 4 for 6 from the field Thursday and is now 31 of 43 (72 percent) in conference games, while tallying at least nine points in three of the last six outings.
  • Radford has now outrebounded its opponent in 20 of the 25 games, including 11 of the 13 Big South contests, with the first High Point game one of the two exceptions.
  • The Highlanders rank fourth in the conference 3-point defense and fifth in points allowed.
  • Its 20-point halftime lead Thursday was its largest in any game this season and just its second by more than single digits.
 
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
  • Record: 14-11, 8-5
  • High Point has won seven of its last eight games, rebounding from a three-point home loss to UNC Asheville with a 68-58 road victory at Presbyterian Thursday night.
  • Miles Bowman Jr. tallied a team-high 16 points in the win, while Tarique Thompson had 14 points and seven rebounds.
  • Bowman, Jr. is now averaging team-highs of 13.9 ppg and 8.6 rpg for the season, ranking second in the Big South in the latter. He is fifth in offensive rebounds per game and third in defensive rebounds per game.
  • For the season, Bowman, Jr. is shooting 53 percent from the field, 50 percent (25-50) on 3-pointers and a conference-best 90 percent from the free-throw line. In league play, he is seventh in scoring at 15.7 ppg. He tallied a career-high 24 points in the Radford game last month.
  • Andre Fox (12.6 ppg) and Anthony Lindauer (10.8) are also averaging in double figures, while Thompson is just below at 9.6. In conference play, Thompson has contributed 11.2 ppg and 6.5 rebounds per contest.
  • Jamal Wright has dished out 97 assists, ranking second in the Big South at 3.9 per game, while tallying 8.7 ppg.
  • In Big South play, High Point ranks first in rebounding defense and rebounding margin, while standing second behind Radford in rebounding overall at 36.5 per game and offensive rebounding at 10.9. The Panthers held 41-30 advantage on the glass in the teams' last meeting.
  • The Panthers also stand second in the league in points allowed (67.9) and third in 3-point defense, while ranking first in free-throw percentage.
  • Nine of High Point's 13 conference games have been decided by single digits and they hold a 5-4 mark in those contests.
