RADFORD TRAVELS TO LONGWOOD TUESDAY; GOING FOR CONSECUTIVE 18-WIN SEASONS



SETTING THE STAGE
  • The Highlanders will look to end their recent road struggles on Tuesday at Longwood. Radford has lost three of their last four road contests, including two in a row. On the season, Radford holds a 7-6 record on the road.
  • Longwood snapped its 11-game losing streak on Saturday with an 83-78 win over Winthrop. The win was the first of 2017 and the first home win since New Year's Eve.
  • The Lancers have fared better at home than on the road with a 3-7 record inside Willett Hall compared to a 1-11 road record.
  • Series: Radford, 24-13
  • Radford owns a 7-5 record in games played in Farmville.

  • Jayda Worthy poured in a career-high 24 points on 11 of 13 shooting, including 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double on the season. Destinee Walker turned in a 20-point performance of her own with 21 points on 4 for 6 shooting from behind the arc, while missing a double-double by one-rebound. Sydney Nunley contributed a double-double off the bench with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 17-6, 9-3 Big South
  • Last Time Out: Overcoming a 17-point deficit, Radford forced overtime to keep its 12-game home winning streak intact with a 67-59 victory in the Highlanders' annual Play4Kay game on Feb. 11.
  • The 17-point comeback is the second on the week for the Highlanders. Radford found itself down 31-14 in the second quarter on Tuesday against Liberty. The Highlanders battled back to take a 44-43 lead in the fourth quarter, eventually falling 49-48.
  • Radford's last win in a comeback of this magnitude came on March 11, 2016 in the big South Tournament quarterfinals. The Highlanders overcame a 15-point deficit for a 72-57 win.
  • The win improves Radford's home record to 10-0 and its streak to 12 consecutive home wins. The Highlanders last home loss came on Jan. 30, 2016 in a 54-46 loss to UNC Asheville.
  • Radford has now collected double-digit home wins in three consecutive seasons, marking the first time since 1991-94.
  • Leading the Highlanders with 14.4 ppg, Destinee Walker is fourth in the league in scoring average and third in points with 331 through 23 contests.
  • Walker has led the Highlanders in points 15 times on the season and has scored double-figures in 19 games.
  • The sophomore has scored double-digits in 10 of Radford's 12 Big South games. She is averaging 14.3 in league play.
  • Janayla White got back on track with 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals in the win over Charleston Southern. White had been held to a mere eight points in her last three games.
  • White last game in double-figures (12) came on Jan. 24 against Liberty.
  • Radford sports two of the best rebounders in the Big South in Jayda Worthy and White. With 7.4 rpg, White is third in the league. Worthy follows in fourth place with 7.1 per contest. In 12 Big South games, Worthy has grabbed 98 of her 163 rebounds on the season.
  • Becoming a floor general, Jen Falconer has played some of her best basketball in Big South games. She has dished out 31 of her 49 assists in league games, averaging 2.6 per game. Falconer has totaled 44 rebounds on the season for 1.9 per game. In Big South play, Falconer has corralled 28 rebounds for 2.3 rpg.
  • As a team, Radford has shot over 40-percent from the field in four out of the last five games. Out of the 12 Big South games, Radford has shot over 40-percent in nine games, including two 50 percent performances.
  • Radford is 14-1 when shooting 40-percent or higher on the season.
  • In Radford's last four road games, the Highlanders have turned the ball over 73 times, while only collecting 25 steals.
  • Radford has been outscored 226-211 in those four games, but own a 39.7 field goal percentage, compared to opponents' 35.6 percentage.
  • Opposing teams are 23 for 70 from behind the arc during the four-game stretch, while Radford is 8 for 53.
  • Walker is averaging 17.8 ppg during the four-game road stretch, while Worthy is averaging 11.0 ppg and 6.5 rpg.
 
SCOUTING LONGWOOD
  • Record: 4-19, 1-11 Big South
  • Last Time Out: Micaela Ellis dished out a program record 15 assists and Kate Spradlin tallied 21 points to lead five Lancers in double-figures as Longwood snapped its 11-game skid with an 83-78 win over Winthrop for its first win in 2017.
  • Eboni Gilliam (19), Ashlee Jones (13), Ellis (13) and Kemari Jones (10) rounded out the Lancers in double-digits.
  • Longwood shot 42.2 percent from the field, making 11 of 30 attempts from behind the arc.
  • On the season, Longwood is shooting 35.7 from the field with a 27.6 percent from three-point land. Opposing teams have shot a blistering 45.1 percent against the Lancer defense, including a 35.0 percentage from behind the arc, ranking 10th in the Big South in both categories.
  • The Lancer defense is ninth in the league, allowing 76.9 ppg. Longwood is averaging 55.8 ppg for an -21.1 scoring margin.
  • Gilliam leads the squad with 10.4 ppg, ranking fifth in the league with a 44.0 field goal percentage. She is averaging 10.8 ppg in league games.
  • Ellis has dished out 66 of 100 assists in Big South games. She leads the league and ranks 113th nationally with 4.3 apg. Ellis is second in the league with a 1.47 assist/turnover ratio.
  • Leading the Big South with 36.2 minutes played per game, Ellis is 39th in the country in mpg.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford returns home on Saturday for Alumnae Day. The Highlanders are set to host Presbyterian in a 2 p.m. battle.

  • Radford is looking to avenge its earlier season 58-54 loss to the Blue Hose in which the Highlanders led for 34:31 and shot 50 percent.
  • Radford is 8-2 versus Prebsyterian inside the Dedmon Center. The Highlanders last home loss to the Blue Hose came in a 53-46 defeat on Feb. 6, 2014.
