RADFORD HOSTS PRESBYTERIAN SATURDAY FOR ALUMNAE DAY



SETTING THE STAGE
  • For the second consecutive Saturday, Radford looks to avenge an early Big South loss as the Highlanders play host to Presbyterian for a 2 p.m. Alumnae Day matchup.
  • The Blue Hose handed the Highlanders their second Big South loss of the season on Jan. 31 in a comeback 58-54 victory. Presbyterian outscored Radford 23-14 in the fourth quarter.  
  • Destinee Walker added a game-high 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting in the loss.
  • Series: Radford, 16-5
  • Radford owns an 8-2 record over Presbyterian in games played inside the Dedmon Center.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 18-6, 10-3 Big South
  • Radford goes for its 19th win, which would be the most in a season during head coach Mike McGuire's tenure.
  • A win would improve Radford's current home winning streak to 13 games, while improving the Highlanders to 11-0 inside the Dedmon Center this season. Radford went 11-3 at home during the 2015-16 season.
  • Last Time Out: Radford collected its 10th Big South win for the third consecutive season in a 74-34 thrashing of Commonwealth foe Longwood on Feb. 14, marking the first time the Highlanders have won double-digit league games in three straight seasons since 1993-96.
  • In the win, Radford placed four players in double-figures for the eighth time on the season. Destinee Walker led all scorers with 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting. Janayla White followed with 15 points on a 6 for 9 effort from the floor. Rounding out the Highlanders in double-figures, Khiana Johnson chipped in with 14 points off the bench and Jayda Worthy contributed 11 points.
  • As a team, Radford made 30 of 64 attempts from the floor, marking the first time they made 30-plus field goals during the 2016-17 season and the first since Feb. 20, 2016. The last time Radford 30-plus field goals in a game came in an 80-64 victory over Longwood.
  • Longwood finished 12 for 36 from the field for 34 points, marking season lows in all categories by a Radford opponent.
  • The Highlander defense has now held their last five opponents under 38 percent shooting, including 10 of their 13 league games.
  • Radford nationally ranked defense forced a season-high 29 turnovers, scoring a season-high 35 points off the Lancer miscues.
  • In the previous four road games, Radford has committed 73 turnovers. The Highlanders only committed 11 on Tuesday night.
  • Ranking 12th nationally, Radford holds a 34.7 field goal percentage defense. The Highlanders have held 11 opponents to a field goal percentage for 35 percent.
  • For the first time this season, Radford leads the Big South in field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense. The Highlanders have made 551 attempts in 1,314 attempts for a 41.9 field goal percentage.
  • Individually, Janayla White has worked to get back in the groove of things as the junior has scored double-figures in back-to-back games for the second time on the season. During the last two games, White has tallied 28 points on 10-18 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds.
  • Khiana Johnson continues her strong play in league games, tallying 112 of her 196 points in Big South play.
  • Radford continues to be the only team in the Big South with two players ranking inside the Top 5 in rebounding, field goal percentage, blocked shots, and offensive rebounds.
  • In rebounding, the two-headed monster of Janayla White (7.3) and Jayda Worthy (7.0) rank third and fourth respectively. Worthy is second with 3.3 offensive rebounds per game and White is fourth with 2.7.
  • The Highlanders have dominated the field goal percentage category as Worthy (57.9) and Walker (48.7) stand in second and third place.
  • White is averaging 1.5 blocked shots per game to rank second in the conference, while Sydney Nunley is fifth with 1.0 per contest.
 
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
  • Record: 10-14, 8-5 Big South
  • Last Time Out: Presbyterian collected its third win in a row and the series sweep over Gardner-Webb with a 58-47 Tuesday night decision. Janie Miles led the way with 12 points on 4 of 8 performance from behind the arc. Miles also collected a career-high six steals.
  • Radford has four out of its last five as defeating the Highlanders on Jan. 31.
  • The Blue Hose sport one player in double-figures as Cortney Storey leads the squad with 11 ppg, 4.2 apg and 2.0 spg.
  • Storey has connected on 89 of 230 shots from the field for a 38.7 shooting percentage. From three-point land, Storey has made 22 of 89 attempts.
  • The Blue Hose lead the Big South with 189 made 3-pointers, ranking sixth with a 31.0 percentage.
  • No Presbyterian player averages more than 3.6 rebounds per game.
  • In the third quarter, Presbyterian has been outscored 389-380 as the Blue Hose have been outscored in the first three quarters before holding a 365-361 advantage in the final 10 minutes.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford plays its final Tuesday road battle of the season on Feb. 21. The Highlanders travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. for a 7 p.m. matchup with Gardner-Webb.
  • The Highlanders look for the series sweep after opening Big South play with a 67-57 win over the Runnin' Bulldogs on Jan. 3.
  • Radford leads the all-time series 12-9, holding a 5-4 edge in road games.
