WALKER WINS SECOND BIG SOUTH POW AWARD; RADFORD'S FIFTH ON SEASON

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford continues to dominate the Big South Conference Player of the Week awards as the Highlanders collected their fifth honor this season Monday afternoon as Destinee Walker was named the league's player of the week for the second time this season.

Walker joins teammate Jayda Worthy, Presbyterian's Cortney Storey and High Point's Emma Bockrath as the two-time winners this season.

The Florence, S.C. native guided the Highlanders (19-6) to two Big South wins on the week; tallying 36 points, nine rebounds, five assists and two steals in the two wins. Walker's 36 points came on 12 of 24 shooting, including a 5 for 10 performance from behind the arc. In addition to her shooting performance, Walker made 7 of 8 free throws.

"Destinee continues to show a high level of consistency for us on the offensive end of the floor," said head coach Mike McGuire. "She is developing a knack for making big plays and shots for us. We appreciate her and are very excited that she has accepted this role for us this season."

In a 74-34 dominating Valentine's Day win over Longwood, Walker poured in a game-high 16 points on 6 of 12 shooting to go along with five rebounds and three assists. She saved her best performance of the week for a 60-50 Alumnae Day victory over Presbyterian on Saturday. Walker collected her sixth 20-point performance of the season with another 6 of 12 showing from the floor to go along with a 6 for 8 effort from the free throw line.

On the season, Walker ranks second in the league in 20-point games and third with 367 points. Her 14.7 points per game average leads the Highlanders and ranks fourth in the league. Walker has led the Highlanders in scoring 17 times on the season with double-digit points in 21 of 25 games.

"She also has a strong desire to improve in all areas of her game and that is why we continue to see her have the impact that she does," McGuire noted. "This was an excellent week for Destinee and our basketball team."

Walker has made 135 of 277 attempts on the season for a 48.7 field goal percentage, ranking 83rd nationally.

Radford returns to action on Tuesday at Gardner-Webb as the Highlanders look for their first 20-win season since the 2007-08 season. Action is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
