RADFORD LACROSSE CARRIES MOMENTUM TO NO. 20 VIRGINIA TECH



BLACKSBURG, Va. – After defeating LIU Brooklyn in immense fashion, in just its second game of the season, the Radford lacrosse team looks to carry the momentum to Blacksburg, Va., as they face a ranked team – a program first – in No. 20 Virginia Tech on Saturday at the Indoor Practice Facility. First draw is slated for 7 p.m.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

•  Radford (1-1) used a late second half run to pick up a 16-10 win over LIU Brooklyn, its first of the 2017 season.
•  The Highlanders totaled 29 points, which set a program record.
•  The two-headed monster of Lindsey Carroll and Emma Rogers combined for 12 points. Carroll tallied five goals and one assist, while Rogers added three goals and three assists.
•  Carroll's five goals tied her for the most goals scored in a game by an individual at Radford.
•  The last time two players recorded six individual points in a game was in Radford's win against Howard on March 5, 2016.
•  The Highlanders lead the Big South in six different categories such as goals per game with 13, assists per game with 8.50, ground balls per game with 26, points per game with 21.50, shot percentage (.605) and shots on goal per game with 19.50.
•  Nationally, Radford ranks seventh in assists per game and 19th in points per game.
•  Freshman Colleen O'Connell leads the team with five assists, but seven other players have contributed to that category. She also has a team-high nine points.
•  Rogers is right behind her with four assists and eight points, both second-best on the team.
•  Defensively, Avery Reding has corralled nine ground balls and caused six turnovers. She ranks in the top 15 in the nation in both categories with 4.5 ground balls per game (14th) and three caused turnovers per game (11th).
•  As a team, the Highlanders are averaging 26 ground balls per game, which sits at fourth in the country.
 
SCOUTING NO. 20 VIRGINIA TECH
•  No. 20 Virginia Tech (4-1) is coming off a 15-2 road win at Liberty and garnered a national ranking with an 18-12 home win against No. 17 Boston College.
•  The Hokies have outscored their opponents 73-35 this season and have a 7.6 scoring margin which ranks 12th in the country.
•  Nationally, Virginia Tech ranks 10th in scoring defense and 20th in scoring offense.
•  The Hokies have three players who have double-digit goals. Tristan McGinley has a team-high 17, while Kristin Loscalzo has 14 and Zan Biedenharn has tallied 12.

UP NEXT
Radford will return home to have two games in three days beginning on Saturday, March 4, against Delaware State at 11 a.m., and follows that up with a Monday, March 6, afternoon game hosting St. Bonaventure at 1 p.m.
