Flippo Named Big South Defensive Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South conference announced Tuesday that Sam Flippo has been named Defensive Player of the Week after setting a new school record in caused turnovers and helping the Highlanders get their first conference win of the season this past week.

On Wednesday vs. Winthrop, Flippo set a new Radford single-game record with seven caused turnovers against the Eagles. She also corralled six ground balls in the contest and added an assist. On Saturday, the Powhatan, Va. native continued to cause havoc on the defensive side, causing five more turnovers with three ground balls in a 13-10 win at Presbyterian.

On the season, the junior ranks second in total caused turnovers (32) and caused turnovers per game (2.67) in the conference. She is eight caused turnovers away from tying the single-season record at Radford, currently held by Katie Bendrick (40) set during the 2021 season.

This is Flippo's first weekly award as a Highlander and the second such award earned by a Radford player this season. Ava LaManna was the last Radford player to win the Big South Defensive Player of the Week award back in February of 2025.

The Highlanders are back in action tomorrow night, facing off against the Panther of High Point. First draw is set for 6:00 p.m. from Vert Stadium. Fans not able to attend in person can follow along on ESPN+.
