RADFORD HOSTS CAMPBELL MONDAY; TOURNAMENT TOP SEED AT STAKE



SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford and Campbell meet in a matchup that will decide the Big South Conference Tournament top seed, while the winner will clinch a share of the regular season championship.
  • The Highlanders are coming off a thrilling 76-73 double overtime win over UNC Asheville on Saturday, while the Camels defeated Gardner-Webb 67-56.  
  • Radford has won 15 games in a row on its home court with its last loss coming on Jan. 30, 2015.
  • In the first matchup this season, Radford dominated all aspects of the game in a 61-42 victory over Campbell on Jan. 10.
  • Leading all scorers, Jayda Worthy finished with a game-high 17 points on 7 of 9 shooting, corralling nine rebounds. Khiana Johnson followed with 14 points off the bench and Janayla White scored all 11 of her points in the second half.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Record: 21-6, 13-3 Big South
  • Last Time Out: Claudia Quevedo tallied the final five Radford points in a 76-73 double overtime victory over UNC Ashevile to give her 13 second half points. Quevedo matched a career high with 19 points on 6 for 11 effort from the field, including a 4 of 6 showing from behind the arc. The redshirt sophomore played in 47 of the game's 50 minutes, a new career best. In addition to her scoring efforts, Quevedo blocked a career best three shots.
  • For the ninth time on the season, Radford placed four players in double-figures.
  • Jayda Worthy turned in her third 20-point performance on the season, finishing 10 of 15 from the field. Worthy finished seven rebounds, three blocks and three assists.
  • Destinee Walker turned in her 22nd double-digit performance of the season, finishing with 12 points. Walker led the Highlanders with six assists, her 10th time on the season.
  • Janayla White added 12 points off the bench on 5 of 7 shooting to go along with six rebounds.
  • With the win, Radford moves into a two-way tie for fourth in program history with 21 wins on the season. The program record is 25 wins, set by the 1988-89 team.
  • In the last three seasons, Radford holds a 33-8 record inside the Dedmon Center.
  • The multiple overtime game was the first for the Highlanders since an 84-80 double overtime loss against Gardner-Webb on Feb. 10, 2010.
  • Radford shot a blistering 53.6 percent from the field, setting a new season best, making 30 of 56 attempts.
  • The Highlanders have shot over 50 percent three times on the season.
  • For only the third time on the season, Radford's defense allowed 70-plus points. The Highlanders are 1-2 in those games.
  • After yielding 73 points, Radford still ranks inside the Top 10 in scoring defense, allowing only 54.1 points per game.
  • Leading the conference with a 35.0 field goal percentage defense, Radford just misses leading the league with a 42.3 field goal percentage as Campbell holds a 42.4 percentage.
 
SCOUTING CAMPBELL
  • Record: 21-6, 13-3 Big South
  • Last Time Out: Campbell closed out the home portion of its regular season schedule with a 67-56 Senior Day win over Gardner-Webb. Summer Price paced the Camels with 21 points. The Camels shot a blistering 54.5 percent from the field.
  • For only the fourth time in program history, Campbell has won 20 games in the a season, marking the first since the 2000-01 season.
  • Campbell has had the top scoring defense in all of NCAA Division I for the past eleven weeks, as their opponent's scoring tally sits at just 47.7 points per game. That's three points lower than second place Green Bay and six points lower than sixth place and national power UConn, who is ranked first in the national polls. Campbell has held eight opponents under 40 points this year including a season-low 30 by N.C. Central.
  • The Camels rank 23rd nationally in three-point field goal percentage defense. Campbell's defense has limited opponents to just 27.6 shooting from long range. Campbell's overall field goal percentage of 36.0 defense ranks 27th in the country.
  • Campbell ranks in the top three in 17 different stat categories in the Big South.
  • Junior guards Summer Price and Makala Rouse are the leaders of the Camel offense. Price is averaging a team-high 12.9 ppg, ranking seventh in the Big South. She has scored in double figures in 10 of the last 12 games as five of those were 20-point outings. Rouse has set a new career-high point total five times this year, improving her scoring average to 9.1 ppg on the season aided by 12 double-figure scoring efforts.  
  • Caroline Bowns is among the best three-point shooters in the Big South. She has posted a 43.0 clip from long range, ranking 16th the country. She is averaging 2.26 per game.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford closes out the 2016-17 regular season schedule on Saturday at High Point in a 2 p.m. battle.
  • The Highlanders won the earlier season battle 59-56 on Jan. 17.
  • The win improved Radford to 18-26 all-time against the Panthers.
  • In road matchups against High Point, Radford is 5-16.
