REID NAMED BIG SOUTH FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK



CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coming off a strong weekend of pitching, Radford's bullpen was rewarded as Colin Reid was named the Big South Conference's Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week for his efforts in the Highlanders four games on the week.
 
The weekly award is the fifth in 2017, most by a Big South team this season. Reid joins Spencer Horwitz as the two Highlanders named freshman of the week.
 
"Colin was outstanding this week out of the bullpen," said head coach Joe Raccuia. "I am not sure what the number looked like, but I do know he pounded the zone a lot and eliminated a bunch of good hitters in big situations."  
 
Reid appeared in all four games on the week, making the most out of his situational pitching. The Round Hill, Va., native tossed 3.2 innings, allowing no hits or runs in the four appearances. Reid struck out seven of the 11 batters he faced.
 
In the series at Presbyterian, Reid threw 3.1 innings, striking out seven batters in three appearances. In back-to-back appearances on April 1 and 2, Reid struck out six batters in only 2.1 innings. On Sunday, Reid struck out the side in his lone inning of work, combing with starter Kyle Zurak to strikeout the side three times on the day.
 
Entering the week with a 10.64 ERA, Reid's performance lowered his ERA to 7.98. Reid has struck out 23 batters in 14.2 innings over 11 appearances. He is third on the team in strikeouts, second among relievers, ranking only behind Zurak's 24 punch outs.
 
Radford and Liberty will meet in a non-conference matchup Tuesday at 6 p.m., before hosting the Flames in a Big South weekend series starting on April 7.
