VOLLEYBALL ENDS NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE IN NEW RIVER VALLEY



RADFORD, Va. – The Radford volleyball team will make its first appearance in the New River Valley on Friday and wrap up non-conference schedule play at the Hokie Invitational sponsored by the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Christiansburg at Carillon Clinic Court at Cassell Coliseum. The Highlanders first match will be against ETSU at 2 p.m., and the second will be against Virginia Tech at 7 p.m.

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS

•  The Highlanders suffered its first loss of 2017 last weekend at the Carolina Classic, but also picked up its second Power Five win of the season. This one came over SEC foe South Carolina.
•  Three-time Big South Conference Player of the week recipient, Maddie Palmer, leads the team with 3.88 kills per set and 109 total kills.
•  Stephanie Neast is fresh off her 17 kill, 12 dig performance against South Carolina, which helped her earn a spot on the all-tournament team and win Carolina Classic MVP. It was the sophomore's first career double-double.
•  The Highlanders have held their opponents to a .147 hitting percentage, which ranks 24th in the country.
•  Maci Keaton has been great defensively as she has a total 1.03 blocks per set this season, which leads the team.
•  Radford is leading the Big South with a .241 hitting percentage and in service aces per set with 1.74.
•  Radford is receiving 26 votes in the VolleyballMag.com Mid-Major Poll. It's the second straight week the team is receiving votes after gaining 22 in last week's rankings.
 
SCOUTING ETSU (3-6)
•  Series: ETSU leads 23-8 (Last Meeting: September 30, 2014 | L, 2-3)
•  The Buccaneers enter the weekend with a 3-6 record after competing at the Holiday Inn – University Plaza Invitational hosted WKU.
•  ETSU dropped two matches to the Lady Toppers and Pittsburgh, but defeated Saint Louis in five sets.
• The Bucs are led outside hitter Rylee Milhorn, who boasts a team-high 107 kills.
•  Milhorn was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association Volleyball Player of the Week on Tuesday after racking up 44 kills and 32 digs in ETSU's three matches.
 
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH (6-3)
•  Series: Virginia Tech leads 28-6 (Last Meeting: September 19, 2017 | L, 1-3)
•  The Hokies enter this weekend at 6-3 after competing in three tournaments. They went 1-2 at the Thunder Invite hosted by Marshall with their only win coming against SMU.
•  Virginia Tech ranks 28th in the country for their hitting percentage of .270
•  Jaila Tolbert has the teams' highest hitting percentage of .376, but Kaity Smith leads the team with 139 kills and is averaging just under four kills per set.
•  Rhegan Mitchell ranks third in the ACC in assists per set with 10.45 and is the Hokies primary setter.
