RADFORD HOSTS FIRST-PLACE HIGH POINT TUESDAY



GAME INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford is coming off a record breaking game against Presbyterian, while High Point rattled off its eighth straight win in matchup versus Longwood.
  • The Highlanders enter the contest with a 6-1 home record and the Panthers bring a 6-3 road record to the Dedmon Center.
  • High Point is 6-0 in Big South play for the first time since 2011-12.
  • With a win, Radford could move within one-game of first place.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The two foes have had quite the battles over the years as High Point leads the all-time series 27-18.
  • Radford possesses a 12-10 clip inside the Dedmon Center in the all-time series.
  • In the last 10 matchups, High Point is 7-3.
  • During that stretch, two of Radford's wins have come on its homecourt, both coming as three-point victories.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford made Big South history Saturday afternoon as the Highlanders shot a scorching 72.2 percent from the field in a 93-55 victory over Presbyterian.
  • The previous conference record of 71.9 percent belonged to former league member UNC Greensboro as the Spartans finished 41 for 57 from the field on Feb. 11, 1994 against UNC Asheville.
  • Having already matched a program record set in the 1980s earlier in the season, Radford crushed another record as the 2017-18 squad broke a 35-year old mark in field goal percentage that served as the women's Dedmon Center and program record.
  • The previous best came against Pembroke State on Dec. 3, 1983 with a shooting clip of 65.3 percent.
  • The 72.2 percent mark ranks as the 13th best percentage in NCAA Division I women's basketball history.
  • Returning home for the first time in 11 days, Radford made 39 of 54 attempts for the record as the Highlanders shot over 70-percent in three of the four quarters.
  • Radford last scored 90 points versus a NCAA Division I opponent on Feb. 16, 2008 in a 91-59 win against Charleston Southern.
  • Radford was five made field goals away from matching the program and conference record.
  • Radford held Longwood to four first quarter points and 11 at halftime in a 52-33 victory on Tuesday over the in-state conference foe.
  • On the defensive side of the ball, Radford held Presbyterian to 16 points. In the last three games, opponents have only scored 41 points in the first half.
  • During the three-game winning streak, opponents have been held under 60 points as the Highlanders improve to 20-4 in the last 49 games when doing so.
  • Radford's defense now ranks 26th nationally with a 56.6 scoring defense and 78th on holding opponents to a 29.5 three-point field goal percentage.
  • With two strong performances on the week, redshirt sophomore Lydia Rivers was named Big South Player of the Week. Rivers tallied 27 points on 12 of 14 shooting, while pulling down 18 rebounds and blocking five shots.
  • In the record breaking win on Saturday, Rivers led the way with a career-high 21 points on 9 of 11 shooting, missing her fourth double-double on the season by one rebound.
  • Nationally, Rivers ranks 42nd with 2.1 blocks per game, while coming in at 92nd with 8.8 rebounds per game. She leads the Big South with 35 blocks.
  • She leads the Big South with 10.2 rebounds per game in league games, while shooting a league-best 65.9 in conference games.
  • Against Presbyterian, Radford placed five players in double-figures for the second time on the season, both coming in league play.
  • Jayda Worthy stuffed the stat sheet as she finished with 12 points, eight assists, six rebounds and four steals.
  • Radford assisted on 20-plus assists for the fifth time on the season, finishing with a season-high 23 as four Highlanders dished out three-plus assists.
  • In the last eight games, Radford has assisted on 177 of 284 made field goals.
  • Claudia Quevedo maintains her 3.1 assists per game and ranks 53rd nationally with a 2.17 assist-to-turnover ratio.
  • Radford is one of two teams in the Big South with three players averaging double-figures.
 
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
  • The Panthers are looking to match the program's record for consecutive wins in its NCAA Division I history as High Point enters with eight straight wins.
  • High Point is the only Big South team with three players in the Top 10 in scoring with Kat Harris (13.7), Emma Bockrath (13.4) and Camryn Brown (11.7) leading the Panthers.
  • High Point is averaging 71.2 ppg, which is the best offense in the Big South, ranking 78th in the country.
  • The Panthers possess a 42.2 field goal percentage, ranking second in the Big South.
  • With three players with 20-plus made 3-pointers, including two with 35-plus, High Point ranks sixth nationally with a 39.5 three-point field goal percentage.
  • High Point leads the Big South with 14.5 assists per game as Brown ranks third in the league with 3.9 per game.
  • Own a league-best +2.88 turnover margin on the season, High Point has been good at not turning the ball over in Big South games, holding a +7.83 turnover margin.
  • The Panthers are only averaging 13.0 miscues per game in league action.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford travels to Liberty for an in-state battle on Sunday. The game is scheduled to be broadcasted by Stadium with a game time set for 2 p.m.
  • Liberty leads the all-time series 43-25, including a 22-10 record at home.
  • The Highlanders snapped a 12-game skid to the Flames with a 76-68 victory inside the Dedmon Center a season ago.
  • Liberty has won six straight in the Vines Center over Radford.
