RADFORD HEADS TO LIBERTY SUNDAY FOR BATTLE OF BLUE RIDGE

GAME INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • The last time Radford and Liberty met on a Sunday came Feb. 7, 2016, which happened to be Super Bowl 50. The Denver Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers 24-10, which Philadelphia Eagle fans may find as good news.
  • Radford has won four straight in league play, while Liberty is on a two-game streak.
  • During Radford's streak, opponents have been held under 60 points in each game.
  • Liberty has only scored 65-plus points in three games against NCAA Division I opponents.
  • The Flames are 6-0 inside the Vines Center, while the Highlanders are 3-4 in road games.
  • Three out of Radford's next four games will come on the road, while Liberty will play three out of the next four at home.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Liberty leads the all-time series 43-25, including a 22-10 record at home.
  • The Highlanders snapped a 12-game skid to the Flames with a 76-68 victory inside the Dedmon Center a season ago.
  • Liberty has won six straight in the Vines Center over Radford.
  • Radford's last win over the Flames in the Vines Center came on Jan. 17, 2011 in a 62-53 decision.
  • Liberty is 0-2 when facing Radford on Jan. 28, with both losses coming in Lynchburg. The Highlanders posted a 74-65 victory over the Lady Flames on Jan. 28, 1993 and a 51-48 win over Liberty on Jan. 28, 1995.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford extended its winning streak to four straight with a 50-47 comeback win over High Point on Tuesday night as the Highlanders trailed by as many as 10 points multiple times in the first half.
  • The last four matchups between the two teams inside the Dedmon Center have been decided by three points or less with Radford holding a 3-1 edge.
  • During head coach Mike McGuire's tenure at Radford, the Highlanders are 23-8 in games decided by three points or less.
  • Radford is 25-11 in games decided by five points or less.
  • During the four-game winning streak, opponents have been held under 60 points as the Highlanders improve to 21-4 in the last 50 games when doing so.
  • The Highlanders held its sixth opponent under 50 points on the year, improving to 5-1 in those games.
  • Radford's defense now ranks 21st nationally with a 56.1 scoring defense and 59th on holding opponents to a 29.0 three-point field goal percentage.
  • The Highlanders are holding conference opponents to 54.1 ppg as only two teams have scored 60-plus with both coming as Radford losses.
  • Radford followed its 72.2. shooting performance with a 44.9 clip against High Point. The Highlanders have shot over 40-percent in nine games on the season.
  • Destinee Walker collected her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career as she grabbed seven rebounds in the final 20 minutes against High Point to finish with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Walker ranks 10th in the league with 11.8 ppg, scoring 11.6 in Big South games.
  • Jayda Worthy has scored double-figures in 11 games on the season, only being held under 10 points in two Big South games.
  • Worthy ranks ninth in the league with 12.9 ppg in conference games, while coming in at third with a 53.0 field goal percentage in 17 games.
  • Worthy is five points and 25 rebounds away from becoming the fifth player in program history with 1,100 points and 700 rebounds. She is also 100 points from moving into the Top 10 scoring in program history.
  • Radford is one of two teams in the Big South with three players averaging double-figures. Walker (11.8, 9th), Worthy (11.6, 12th) and Khiana Johnson (10.5, 14th).
  • The Highlanders are the only team with two players in conference's top five and top 10 in rebounding. Lydia Rivers (8.6, 2nd), Janayla White (8.0, 3rd) and Worthy (6.4, 9th).
  • The trio has combined for 168 of Radford's 291 rebounds in Big South play.
  • Nationally, Rivers ranks 46th with 2.0 blocks per game, ranking second in the league with 36 blocks.
  • Radford has dished out 15-plus assists in four of seven games.
  • The Highlanders have four players averaging two assists. Claudia Quevedo (2.9), Worthy (2.4), Jen Falconer (2.3) and Walker (2.0).
 
SCOUTING LIBERTY
  • Liberty looks to start 7-1 or better in conference play for the first time since 2014-15, when they won its first eight Big South contests.
  • The Flames own one of the better defenses in the Big South as they rank 38th in the country with a 57.9 scoring defense and lead the way with a 50.7 scoring defense in league games.
  • Averaging 64.4 per game, Liberty possesses the league best shooting team with a 42.5 field goal percentage.
  • The only Liberty player averaging double-figures, Keyen Green (12.5 ppg) ranks 29th nationally with a 57.5 field goal percentage.
  • Green leads with 16.3 in Big South games, combing
  • Of seven Liberty players with 90 field goal attempts, five are shooting above 40-percent.
  • Owning a league-best +6.7 rebounding margin, Liberty is holding opponents to only 30.4 rebounds per game. Green leads the team with 6.0 per game.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford has a quick turnaround as the Highlanders travel to Buies Creek, N.C., for a Tuesday night tilt against Campbell.
  • Radford holds a 24-12 edge in the all-time series. The Highlanders are only 8-8 in road contests, winning the last two.
  • The Highlanders own a five-game winning streak in the series, including a 49-48 decision on Feb. 27, 2017 to claim the Big South Regular Season Championship.
  • The five-game streak comes after Campbell had one of its own in the series.
