BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Another game, another second half comeback, another thriller by the Cardiac Kids; Radford battled back from early struggles for an 51-50 overtime victory Tuesday night against Campbell.

The Highlanders improve to 24-8 in games decided by three points or less under head coach Mike McGuire and 5-5 in one-point games. In overtime games, Radford has been tough to beat, holding a 7-1 clip.

Pitting the two best defenses in the Big South, something had to give offensively as the Fighting Camels and Highlanders struggled in stretches early in the game. Radford was held scoreless for almost a nine-minute stretch in the first 20 minutes, while Campbell had a seven-minute stretch of its own as they went into the locker room leading 27-19.

Radford held the Fighting Camels scoreless for the final 4:25 of the third quarter, using a 13-8 edge in the quarter to cut the deficit to 35-32. Lydia Rivers got the Highlanders off to fast start in the quarter with six points.

The Highlanders cut the lead to one-point early in the fourth quarter, the first since the 7:25 mark in the second quarter, but the Fighting Camels pushed the lead back to seven (41-34). Coming out of the media timeout, Radford closed out the fourth quarter on a 7-2 swing, which was part of a 11-4 run to end the quarter.

Providing 12 points in the final 25 minutes, Janayla White got a layup to fall off an offensive rebound to pull within 43-40 with 3:25 remaining in the quarter.

After leading the way with six points in the first half, Jayda Worthy provided a layup with 42.6 on the clock after Jen Falconer and Destinee Walker forced a Summer Price turnover, who looked to be dribbling for one shot.

Campbell pushed the lead to 45-42 on two free throws by MaKala Rouse with 14.4 seconds remaining. The free throws came after Radford forced a tough floater attempt by Rouse, but knocked the ball out of bounds on the rebound.

The Highlanders called timeout to advance the ball past midcourt. Coming off a screen, Walker banked in three of her biggest eight second half points to knot the game at 45 with 7.8 seconds on the clock. Campbell raced down the floor and Price's 3-pointer fell short as the Highlanders headed to second overtime game on the season.

In overtime, White provided four of the first six Highlander points, pushing Radford's lead to 51-47. Holding the lead, Radford's defense forced four shot clock violations and 0 for 3 start from the field. Campbell was 7 for 28 in the second half, including 2 for 6 in overtime.

Off an offensive rebound, Campbell received a huge 3-pointer from Hayley Barber with just under 10 seconds remaining. Worthy was fouled with Radford leading 51-50, but missed two free throws to give the Fighting Camels one last chance.

Campbell worked in the ball inside to what appeared to be a wide-open post player, but turned the ball over as the Highlanders picked up their third win when trailing at half on the season.

QUOTABLE
  • "I'm not really sure how we won that game. Campbell did a great job with controlling most of the game. Offensively, we were not that efficient. They gave us enough opportunities to have a chance as we were lucky enough to bank in a 3-pointer to force overtime. I thought our defensive effort in overtime was tremendous." ~ Radford head coach Mike McGuire
