RADFORD SHUTS OUT PRESBYTERIAN ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT

CLINTON, S.C. – Jasmine Casarez's two goals and Courtenay Kaplan's six saves led the Radford women's soccer team to a 2-0 victory at Presbyterian on Wednesday night at Edens Field at Martin Stadium.
Both teams split possession in the early minutes of the match, but the Highlanders took eight shots within the first 22 minutes. The ninth found the back of the net in the 24th minute as Nelia Perez crossed the ball toward the middle of the field about eight yards from the goal. Alyssa Leaman, the Blue Hose goalkeeper came out early to stop the cross, but it tipped off her outstretched hand and found Casarez, who scored the easy open net goal.
Thanks to Casarez, the Highlanders had a 1-0 lead. Only three minutes passed until the lead grew to two. With the Highlanders on the offensive end, a Presbyterian defender cleared the ball and it went right to Emily Dunn. Dunn played the ball in to none other than Casarez about 11 yards from the goal. The Moreno Valley, California native took one touch and blasted the shot towards the bottom right corner of the goal. The shot was placed perfectly and went past Leaman for the 2-0 lead.
With the two goals, Casarez tallied five in a 75-minute stretch dating back to last week. The senior also produced her ninth career multi-goal match in the win.
Radford finished with 15 shots in the first half and only took five in the second. Presbyterian (7-7, 2-6 Big South) took 18 shots in the match and 13 in the second half. It didn't matter because the defense was ready for the second half surge. Kaplan faced 18 shots and came up with six saves – five of them in the second half. It is Radford's fifth shutout victory this season and second in the last three matches.
MOMENT THAT MATTERED
The first 30 minutes of the match were critical and Radford pressed on the offensive side of the field. The Highlanders accounted for 12 of their 15 first half shots in that time frame. Three of those 12 shots landed on goal, while two of those three found the back of the net and were the difference in the match.
STAT OF THE MATCH
The offensive attack was spread out on Wednesday night. 10 different players made up the 20 shots. Gabi Paupst led all players with five, while Perez and Casarez notched three.

"It's a long day trip down here and to see the team get off the bus and play the first half the way we did was very pleasing," Ben Sohrabi said. "I give a lot of credit to Presbyterian for their second half performance but I thought we defended well during the second half and preserved the shutout."

The Highlanders have two matches remaining in the regular season and are inching closer to clinching a top four seed and a regular season title. Radford will travel to UNC Asheville for a Saturday evening match at 5 p.m.
