RADFORD, Va. – The 2018 Big South regular-season champion Radford women's soccer team won their eighth consecutive match after they blanked Charleston Southern, 1-0, at Cupp Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The Highlanders, who will host a Big South Tournament quarterfinal contest this Saturday evening (7:00 p.m.) at Cupp against either Winthrop or High Point, improved to 13-2-1 overall and 9-1-0 in the league. Radford is now 8-0-1 on their home turf this season.
In a game that featured few scoring chances, Highlander senior midfielder Jasmine Casarez headed in the lone goal of the contest in the 51stminute. It was the 10th tally of the season for the Moreno Valley, California native, who now has produced seven goals in her last four contests. She is currently second in the league in the category.
Classmate Jordan Lundin assisted on the goal as she sent a perfect corner kick into the center of the box. Casarez, who recorded a match-high three shots on goal, managed to place the ball into the lower left-corner of the net past Bucs' goalkeeper Jazmin Gonzalez.
Highlander goalkeeper Courtney Kaplan was asked to make just four saves as the defense in front of her held Charleston Southern's attack in check for most of the afternoon.
The hosts took 17 shots compared to just 11 by the visitors, who fell to 9-5-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the league.
