RADFORD AND LIBERTY BATTLE TUESDAY NIGHT IN DEDMON



GAME INFORMATION
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Two games separate Radford (9-3) and Liberty (11-1) in the Big South standings as the two teams race toward the regular season championship with only six games remaining on the conference slate.
  • After the Tuesday contest, Radford will still have to go to High Point and host Campbell. Liberty will host UNC Asheville and High Point. The Flames only loss in conference play came at the hands of UNC Asheville.
  • The Flames have won seven in a row and 11 out of their last 12.
  • On the other hand, Radford has won four in a row and eight out of its last nine games.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • In the first 2018 meeting between the two teams, Liberty held on for a 61-56 victory on Jan. 28. Radford trailed by as many as 13 in the first half, storming back in the second half, outscoring Liberty 33-25. The Highlanders made 13 of 30 attempts, forcing 12 turnovers.
  • The Highlanders cut the deficit to three points, receiving two chances to tie on 3-pointers by Jayda Worthy and Destinee Walker with 30 seconds remaining.
  • Since 2008, Liberty has won 21 of the 23 matchups as Radford snapped a 12-game skid to the Flames a season ago with a 76-68 victory inside the Dedmon Center on Jan. 24. 2017.
  • Five of the six Radford-Liberty games over the last three seasons have been decided by 10 points or fewer.
  • Liberty owns a 44-25 record in the all-time series, but in games played inside the Dedmon Center Radford is 15-16.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford's offense and defense continues to fire on all cylinders as the Highlanders shot over 40 percent, while holding another opponent under 60 points in a 74-57 victory over Charleston Southern on Saturday.
  • As a team, Radford shot 41.8 percent, increasing its hot shooting clip of 40 percent or more in seven out of the last nine games. The Highlanders have shot over 50 percent three times on the season, including two in league play.
  • The Highlander defense has held eight of its last nine opponents under 60 points, including four under 50 points. Radford has also limited opponents to below 40 percent shooting in eight of the games during the stretch.
  • Radford is 25-4 in the last 55 games when holding opposing teams under 60 points, including a 13-1 mark on the season.
  • The Highlanders have only allowed 60-plus points in three of 12 league games, all coming as losses.
  • In the last nine games, eight opponents have been held below 40 percent shooting as the Highlanders rank third in the league with a 37.2 field goal defense, which is 51st in the country.
  • Radford ranks second in Big South games, holding opposing offenses to a 35.4 shooting clip in league games.
  • The Highlander defense is holding Big South foes to 53.4 points per game, while ranking 15th nationally with a 55.3 scoring defense.
  • Radford also ranks 37th nationally with a 28.5 three-point field goal percentage defense.
  • Offensively, Radford holds a 41.2 field goal percentage through 23 games, while shooting 44.6 percent in league games.
  • The Highlanders finished with four players in double-figures Saturday for the seventh time on the season and fourth in league play.
  • Claudia Quevedo poured in 10 of her 15 second half points in the fourth quarter to finish with a career-high 20 points. Quevedo was 6 for 9 from the field, knocking down four 3-pointers.
  • Quevedo has scored 48 points in the last three Big South games, finishing with her first 20-point game of her career.
  • Jayda Worthy was named Big South Player of the Week on Monday, her third career honor. On the week, Worthy averaged 16.0 points per game, 7.5 rebounds per game and finished with a 68.4 field goal percentage.
  • Grabbing 15 rebounds in the two Radford wins, Worthy became the fifth player in program history with 1,100 points and 700 rebounds.
  • Worthy is 33 points away from cracking the Top 10 program history, while needing only 26 field goals to move inside the top five in career made field goals. With 701 rebounds, Worthy is 22 from moving into the Top 10 in Radford history.
  • The last time Radford had two players finish with double-doubles came against Charleston Southern in the first matchup on Jan. 13. Janayla White finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, making 11 of 13 from the free throw line. Lydia Rivers, who had a double-double in the first meeting, finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
  • White entered Saturday's game needing 25 points to become the 23rd player in program history with 1,000 points, White finished with 17 and is only eight away from the mark.
  • Pulling down 13 boards, White became only the 13th player in Big South history to grab 900 rebounds. White is 95 rebounds away from becoming the third player in program history with 1,000 and 1,000.
  • She is 11 rebounds away from moving into the Top 3 in program history. Collecting three blocks, White is 13 blocks from becoming the second player in program history with 200 and the 10th in conference history.
  • Radford has four players shooting over 40 percent in league games and three over 50 percent.
  • Assisting on the offensive outburst of late, Jen Falconer has dished out five assists in each of the last four games. She five games of five-plus assists in league play and six on the season.
  • Averaging 2.9 per game, Falconer is sixth in the league, while ranking third with 3.6 in Big South games.
  • The Highlanders are the only Big South team with two players in the top five in rebounding and conference rebounding. Rivers and White are tied for second with 8.0 per game. In league games, Rivers is third with 8.0 and White follows in fourth with 7.8.
 
SCOUTING LIBERTY
  • Liberty has a chance to clinch a first-round bye and top-four seed for the conference tournament with a victory on Tuesday.
  • During Liberty's seven-game winning streak, Keyen Green is averaging 18.3 ppg and 8.3 rpg. On the season, Green is averaging 13.2 per game and 16.0 in league games.
  • Green is 19th nationally with a 59.5 field goal percentage, shooting 62.9 in conference play.
  • With only one player averaging double-digits, Liberty has six players averaging six-plus points per game.
  • The Liberty defense has held all seven opponents to 56 points or fewer, allowing just 45.7 ppg over the winning streak.
  • On the season, Liberty ranks 14th in the country with a 55.3 scoring defense, while ranking 19th with an 8.3 rebound-margin.
  • Green (6.5) and KK Barbour (5.9) are the Flames' top two rebounders.
  • Ashtyn Baker is one of four Big South players with 80 assists on the season, averaging 3.4 per game.
 
UP NEXT
  • After playing two straight home games, Radford hits the road Saturday for a 2 p.m., contest at Winthrop.
  • The Highlanders opened Big South play with a 78-52 victory over the Eagles on Jan. 2.
