WINNERS FIVE STRAIGHT; RADFORD TRAVELS TO WINTHROP SATURDAY



GAME INFORMATION
SETTING THE STAGE
  • After picking up a 52-45 victory over Liberty on Tuesday night, Radford improved to 10-3 in Big South play, moving within one game of the Flames (11-2) in first place.
  • Radford is in a two-way tie for second place with UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs will travel to Liberty on Saturday.
  • If Radford and UNC Asheville pick up wins on Saturday, there will be a three-way tie for first place. The Highlanders split the season series with both teams.
  • With five games remaining in the conference slate, Radford will play the bottom three teams in the Big South standings in the next three games Winthrop (Saturday), Longwood (Feb. 20) and Presbyterian (Feb. 24).
  • Of the final five games, three will come on the road.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Highlanders opened Big South play with a 78-52 victory over the Eagles on Jan. 2, which marked the 21st straight win inside the Dedmon Center.
  • Radford assisted on 22 of 34 made field goals, placing five players in double-figures for the first time since Dec. 2, 2015.
  • In the all-time series, Radford is 59-16 with a 24-9 clip in road games.
  • The Highlanders have won five straight in the series.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • A career performance by Janayla White led Radford to a 52-45 victory over Liberty Tuesday night as the two Big South heavyweights met in a contest that had major tournament seeding implications on the line.
  • On a night in which she became the 23rd player in program history to cross the 1,000-point plateau, White finished with a career-high 20 points and pulled down a season-high 17 rebounds to collect her eighth double-double on the season, including her third in the last four games.
  • The Highlander defense held another opponent under 60 points, containing nine of the last 10 opponents to under the mark, including five under 50 points.
  • The Highlanders have only allowed 60-plus points in three of 13 league games, all coming as losses.
  • Radford is 26-4 in the last 56 games when holding opposing teams under 60 points, including a 14-1 mark on the season.
  • Radford has also limited opponents to below 40 percent shooting in nine of the games during the stretch, holding the Flames to a 38.0 percent clip.
  • Offensively, Radford has shot over 40 percent in seven out of the last 10 games as they had their three-game streak snapped with a 34.6 shooting percentage.
  • In the last 10 games, nine opponents have been held below 40 percent shooting as the Highlanders rank second in the league with a 37.2 field goal defense, which is 50th in the country.
  • Radford ranks second in Big South games, holding opposing offenses to a 35.6 shooting clip in league games.
  • The Highlander defense is holding Big South foes to 52.8 points per game, while ranking 12th nationally with a 54.9 scoring defense.
  • Radford also ranks 41st nationally with a 28.5 three-point field goal percentage defense.
  • Offensively, Radford holds a 41.0 field goal percentage through 24 games, while shooting 43.9 percent in league games.
  • Pulling down 17 rebounds in the win over Liberty, White moved into third all-time in program history with 922. She is 78 away from becoming the third in program history with 1,000 career rebounds. White now ranks 10th in Big South history in career rebounding.
  • The first 20-point game of her career bests her previous career high of 19 points at Winthrop on Feb. 23, 2016. She was 5 for 9 from the field, making 10 of 14 free throws for her second straight double-digit free throw game.
  • Four different Highlanders have scored 20-plus points on the season.
  • Close to achieving more history, Jayda Worthy is 29 points away from cracking the Top 10 program history, while needing only 24 field goals to move inside the top five in career made field goals. With 706 rebounds, Worthy is 17 from moving into the Top 10 in Radford history.
  • Also in the win over Liberty, Lydia Rivers just missed collecting her second straight double-double, finishing with 11 points and eight rebounds. She has tallied double-digits in three straight and eight on the season.
  • Jen Falconer had her streak of four straight games with five assists snapped as she finished with one against Liberty. She five games of five-plus assists in league play and six on the season.
  • Averaging 2.8 per game, Falconer is sixth in the league, while ranking third with 3.4 in Big South games.
  • The Highlanders are the only Big South team with two players in the top five in rebounding and conference rebounding. White now ranks second with 8.5 per game, while Rivers is third with an 8.0 clip. In league games, White is tied for second with 8.5 and Rivers is fourth with 8.0.
 
SCOUTING WINTHROP
  • Winthrop has dropped four straight and collected only one win since Nov. 15.
  • The only Eagles win in Big South play came in a 69-60 decision over Longwood on Jan. 30.
  • Winthrop is 2-9 inside the Winthrop Coliseum.
  • The Eagles are one of only two Big South teams without a player averaging double-figures as Courtney Hagaman leads the team with 9.4 per game.
  • Ronata Rogers has been solid in the paint, averaging 8.0 ppg and 6.6 rpg, while blocking 23 shots.
  • Averaging 7.5 ppg, Emily Kelley is 52 for 153 from the beyond the arc for a 34.0 percentage.
  • The Eagles are averaging 21.0 turnovers per game, while only having a 6.5 steals per game clip.
  • Opponents have outscored Winthrop 832-556 in the opening half.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford welcomes in-state foe Longwood to the Dedmon Center on Feb. 20 for the final home weekday game of the season. It will also mark the last Highlander home game until March 3.
  • The Highlanders picked up a 52-33 victory on Jan. 16 in the first meeting, moving the winning streak to seven straight.
  • Radford leads the all-time series 26-13, holding a 14-2 clip in home games.
  • Longwood's last win inside the Dedmon Center came on Dec. 29, 2012.
