RADFORD BEGINS SECOND HALF PLAY; HOSTS GWU SATURDAY



GAME INFORMATION  
SETTING THE STAGE
  • After playing nine games a season ago that were decided by three points or less, Radford has played four this season, including two in the last three games.
  • The last three Radford games have been decided by five points or less, including the two by three points. Radford is 2-1 during the stretch.
  • Radford has a 50-47 win over High Point and a 51-50 win at Campbell with both coming as second half comeback victories.
  • During head coach Mike McGuire's tenure at Radford, the Highlanders are 24-8 in the games decided by three points or less.
  • On the opposing side, Gardner-Webb has played in four games decided by three points or less this season, compiling a 1-3 clip in those games. Three of those games came in Big South play as the Runnin' Bulldogs have dropped contests against High Point, Presbyterian and UNC Asheville.
  • In the all-time series, the two foes have played six games decided by the mark with Radford holding a 4-2 record.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • In the last meeting on Jan. 6, Gardner-Webb used a 22-11 first quarter start, while holding Radford scoreless for a seven-minute stretch in the fourth for a 69-53 victory.
  • The Runnin' Bulldogs' victory snapped Radford's four-game winning streak in the series, pulling within 14-10 in the all-time matchup.
  • However, Radford is 7-3 in games played inside the Dedmon Center.
  • The Highlanders have won five straight over the Runnin' Bulldogs on their home court with the last loss coming on Feb. 27, 2012.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford's defense kept itself in another game on Tuesday night with a 51-50 overtime comeback victory at Campbell.
  • The Highlander defense held the Fighting Camels scoreless for a six-minute stretch in the fourth quarter, outscoring them 32-25 in the final 25 minutes, while shooting over 40 percent.
  • Four out of Radford's last five opponents have been held below 60 points as the Highlanders hold a 22-4 record in the last 52 games when doing so.
  • The Highlanders have only allowed 60-plus points in three of the first nine league games, all coming as losses.
  • In the last five games, four opponents have been held below 40 percent shooting as the Highlanders rank fourth in the league with a 37.8 field goal defense, which is 74th in the country.
  • Radford ranks second in Big South games, holding opposing offenses to a 36.2 shooting clip in nine league games.
  • The Highlander defense is holding Big South foes to 54.4 points per game, while ranking 21st nationally with a 56.1 scoring defense.
  • Radford also ranks 55th nationally with a 28.7 three-point field goal percentage defense.
  • Offensively, Radford holds a 40.4 field goal percentage through 20 games, while shooting 43.9 percent in league games.
  • That percentage is helped by Jayda Worthy's 52.3 field goal percentage and 53.0 percentage in Big South play.
  • Currently, Worthy holds a 53.5 career field goal percentage, which is one pace to be on the of the top marks in program history.
  • Worthy has made 446 field goals in her career and its three away from moving inside the Top 10 in program history.
  • Entering the game with 1,123 career points, Worthy is 18 rebounds away from becoming the fifth player in program history with 1,100 points and 700 rebounds. She is also 72 points from moving into the Top 10 scoring in program history.
  • Destinee Walker and Worthy have scored double-digits in the last four games, the duo has scored in double-figures in 13 games each on the season.
  • The duo ranks 10th in the league with 11.8 ppg, while Worthy is ninth in Big South games averaging 13.1.
  • Radford has four players shooting over 40 percent in league games and is one of three teams. Radford is also one of four teams in Big South with three players averaging double-figures.
  • The Highlanders are the only team with two players in conference's top five and three in the top 10 in rebounding. Rivers (8.3, 3rd), Janayla White (7.2, 4th) and Worthy (6.0, 10th).
  • White is closing in on 1,000 points, needing 42 points to achieve the milestone. Enter the game with 876 rebounds, White needs four to move into the Top 15 in Big South history.
 
SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
  • The Runnin' Bulldogs have dropped four out of the last six games in conference play after starting 2-1.
  • Gardner-Webb continues to possess one of the best scoring teams in the league as they rank second with 65.0 ppg. In league play, they hold a 64.1 average.
  • However, in Big South play, Gardner-Webb has given up its fair share of points with opposing teams averaging 65.8 per game.
  • Gardner-Webb has two of the best scorers in the league, while holding the honor of the only team in the league with two players ranked inside the top five in scoring.
  • Tierra Huntsman leads the league with 15.8 ppg, while Alexus Hill follows in fourth with a 14.6 scoring clip.
  • Through the first nine conference games, Huntsman is only averaging 11.5, but Hill continues her strong season with 14.9 in league play to rank third.
  • Gardner-Webb is the only Big South team with four players averaging double-figures in league play with Ky'Asia Stanford (11.2) and Savannah Plentovich (10.7) following. The Runnin' Bulldogs are just barely missing five players with Carley Plentovich chipping in 9.9 ppg.
  • The Runnin' Bulldogs are shooting 40.2 percent from the field on the season, but rank eighth in Big South games with a 38.6 shooting clip.
  • Gardner-Webb protects the ball, ranking 15th nationally in fewest turnovers with 257. The Runnin' Bulldogs also rank 15th with only 12.2 miscues committed per contest.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford will hit the road again on Feb. 6, traveling to UNC Asheville for a Tuesday night battle.
  • The Bulldogs were victorious in the first meeting on Jan. 9, snapping Radford's 21-game home winning streak with a 67-56 decision.
