RADFORD BATTLES UNC ASHEVILLE TUESDAY FOR SECOND PLACE

GAME INFORMATION
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford enters the contest with a 7-3 Big South record and UNC Asheville holds an 8-2 mark.
  • With a win, Radford would move into a tie for second place with UNC Asheville and possibly High Point. The Panthers play at Longwood.
  • UNC Asheville would hold the tiebreaker as the Bulldogs are the only conference team to defeat Liberty this season.
  • Radford is 3-2 in Big South road games, allowing over 60 points in both losses.
  • Despite holding a 5-0 record in league road games, UNC Asheville is 3-2 in Big South home games.
  • The two losses are against High Point and Presbyterian as Radford has defeated both teams at home.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • The Bulldogs were victorious in the first meeting on Jan. 9, snapping Radford's 21-game home winning streak with a 67-56 decision. UNC Asheville outscored Radford 20-8 in the third quarter and put up 24 points in the fourth in the comeback win.
  • Radford leads the all-time series 50-23, owning a 21-12 record in road games.
  • The Highlanders collected a 64-62 overtime win against the Bulldogs inside Kimmel Arena a season ago.
  • In the last 10 matchups on the road, Radford is 7-3 inside Kimmel Arena.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford continued its hot shooting streak in Big South play as the Highlanders shot 53.3 percent from the field in a 66-46 victory over Gardner-Webb on Saturday.
  • As a team, Radford shot 53.3 percent, increasing its hot shooting clip of 40 percent or more in five out of the last six games. The Highlanders have shot over 50 percent three times on the season, including two in league play.
  • The Highlanders shooting display was aided by a career performance from Claudia Quevedo as the redshirt junior drained six of seven three-point attempts for a season-high 18 points.
  • The six 3-pointers are a career high for Quevedo and the second highest amount by a Big South player this season.
  • Radford's defense was at it again on Saturday as the Highlanders have held five out of their last six opponents below 60 points for a 23-4 record in the last 53 games when doing so.
  • The Highlanders have only allowed 60-plus points in three of the first 10 league games, all coming as losses.
  • In the last six games, five opponents have been held below 40 percent shooting as the Highlanders rank third in the league with a 37.5 field goal defense, which is 63rd in the country.
  • Radford ranks second in Big South games, holding opposing offenses to a 35.7 shooting clip in 10 league games.
  • The Highlander defense is holding Big South foes to 53.6 points per game, while ranking 17th nationally with a 55.6 scoring defense.
  • Radford also ranks 40th nationally with a 28.5 three-point field goal percentage defense.
  • Offensively, Radford holds a 40.9 field goal percentage through 21 games, while shooting 44.7 percent in league games.
  • That percentage is helped by Jayda Worthy's 52.5 field goal percentage and 53.3 percentage in Big South play.
  • Currently, Worthy holds a 53.5 career field goal percentage, which is one pace to be on the of the top marks in program history.
  • Worthy has made 449 field goals in her career and its one away from moving inside the Top 10 in program history.
  • Entering the game with 1,130 career points, Worthy is 14 rebounds away from becoming the fifth player in program history with 1,100 points and 700 rebounds. She is also 65 points from moving into the Top 10 scoring in program history.
  • Destinee Walker has scored double-digits in the last five games, while pouring in double-figures in all but two Big South games.
  • Worthy follows with double-figures in seven of 10 league games.
  • The duo ranks 10th (Walker 11.9 ppg) and 11th (Worthy 11.6 ppg) in scoring. In Big South play, Worthy is ninth with 12.5 ppg and Walker is 11th with 11.9 per game.
  • Radford has four players shooting over 40 percent in league games and three over 50 percent.
  • Radford is also one of four teams in Big South with three players averaging double-figures.
  • The Highlanders are the only Big South team with two players in the top five in rebounding and conference rebounding. Lydia Rivers and Janayla White are tied for second with 8.0 rpg game. In league games, Rivers is third with 7.9 and White follows in fourth with 7.8.
  • With a 13-rebound effort on Saturday, White moved into 15th in Big South history with 889 career rebounds. She needs 111 rebounds for 1,000 in her career and 21 points to achieve the 1,000-point milestone.
 
SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE
  • After starting the season with six straight losses, UNC Asheville has won seven out of its last eight games. The stretch started with a win over Radford.
  • The Bulldogs own the league's best scoring offense in league play, averaging 64.8 per game, while holding opposing Big South teams to 55.5 ppg for a scoring margin of +9.3.
  • UNC Asheville has scored 60-plus points in eight league games, including four games of 70-plus.
  • Individually, Bronaza Fitzgerald is the lone Big South player averaging a double-double of 13.7 ppg and 10.9 rpg in conference play. She is nearly achieving the feat on the season with 13.2 ppg and 9.5 rpg.
  • Fitzgerald is averaging 4.3 offensive boards per game, ranking 16th nationally.
  • UNC Asheville is one of three teams with two players in the Top 10 scoring in the Big South as Khaila Webb ranks tied for seventh with 13.0 per game. Fitzgerald ranks fifth.
  • Rounding out the Bulldogs' top scorers with 10.2 per game, Jessica Wall ranks second in the Big South and 78th nationally with a 39.6 clip from deep. She has made 55 of 139 attempts from behind the three-point line.
  • UNC Asheville does not turn the ball over easily, ranking second in the league and 58th in the country with 303 turnovers committed.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford returns to the Dedmon Center Saturday for a two-game swing, hosting Charleston Southern in the Highlanders' annual Play4Kay game. Action is slated for a 2 p.m., start.
  • The contest will also serve as Alumnae Day for women's basketball.
  • In the first meeting on the season, Radford battled back for a 61-56 overtime victory on Jan. 13.
  • Commanding a 12-3 record in the last 15 meetings, Radford holds a 50-19 record in the all-time series, including a 29-4 record inside the Dedmon Center.
