RADFORD HOSTS CSU SATURDAY IN ANNUAL PLAY4KAY GAME



GAME INFORMATION
SETTING THE STAGE
  • Radford returns to the Dedmon Center Saturday for a two-game homestand as the Highlanders will play four out of the last seven games at home to conclude the regular season.
  • The Highlanders have won seven out of its last eight games after dropping two of the first three Big South games to start the conference slate.
  • After losing six of its first eight conference games, Charleston Southern has won three straight, including two on the road.
  • Charleston Southern is 2-3 in league road games, while Radford is 4-1 at home.
  • Saturday serves as the Highlanders' Alumnae Day and Play4Kay game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Radford owns a 51-19 record in the all-time series, winning 13 out of the last 16 meetings.
  • The Highlanders overcame a strong second half by the Buccaneers for a 61-56 overtime victory on Jan. 13. Radford held the Bucs scoreless in the first quarter, commanding a 22-14 lead at halftime. Charleston Southern outscored Radford 31-23 in the second half, however Jayda Worthy scored 10 points and grabbed 11 points in the final 25 minutes for the Highlanders comeback.
  • Radford is 29-4 against Charleston Southern inside the Dedmon Center.
  • Charleston Southern's last win inside the Dome of Defense came on Dec. 28, 2013 in an 84-64 decision.
 
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford offense and defense continues to fire on all cylinders as the Highlanders shot over 40 percent and held another opponent under 60 points in a 64-48 victory over UNC Asheville.
  • The Highlanders trailed 26-22 at halftime, moving to 4-6 on the season when trailing at half.
  • As a team, Radford shot 47.2 percent, increasing its hot shooting clip of 40 percent or more in six out of the last seven games. The Highlanders have shot over 50 percent three times on the season, including two in league play.
  • The Highlander defense has held seven of its last eight opponents under 60 points, including four under 50 points. Radford has also limited opponents to below 40 percent shooting in seven of the games during the stretch.
  • Radford is 24-4 in the last 54 games when holding opposing teams under 60 points, including a 12-1 mark on the season.
  • The Highlanders have only allowed 60-plus points in three of the first 11 league games, all coming as losses.
  • In the last seven games, six opponents have been held below 40 percent shooting as the Highlanders rank third in the league with a 37.5 field goal defense, which is 60th in the country.
  • Radford ranks second in Big South games, holding opposing offenses to a 35.8 shooting clip in 11 league games.
  • The Highlander defense is holding Big South foes to 53.1 points per game, while ranking 14th nationally with a 55.2 scoring defense.
  • Radford also ranks 40th nationally with a 28.4 three-point field goal percentage defense.
  • Offensively, Radford holds a 41.2 field goal percentage through 22 games, while shooting 44.9 percent in league games.
  • That percentage is helped by Jayda Worthy's 53.7 field goal percentage and 55.4 percentage in Big South play.
  • Currently, Worthy holds a 53.8 career field goal percentage, which is one pace to be on the of the top marks in program history.
  • Ranking eighth with 456 field goals in her career, Worthy is 32 from moving inside the Top 5 in program history.
  • Entering the game with 1,144 career points, Worthy is seven rebounds away from becoming the fifth player in program history with 1,100 points and 700 rebounds. She is also 51 points from moving into the Top 10 scoring in program history.
  • Destinee Walker and Worthy have scored double-figures in eight of 11 league games, recording 14 total on the season.
  • The duo ranks tie for 10th in scoring in the league, averaging 11.7 per game. In Big South play, Worthy is ninth with 12.6 ppg and Walker is 14th with 11.5 per game.
  • Radford has four players shooting over 40 percent in league games and three over 50 percent.
  • Radford is also one of four teams in Big South with three players averaging double-figures.
  • Assisting on the offensive outburst of late, Jen Falconer has dished out five assists in each of the last three games. She four games of five-plus assists in league play and five on the season.
  • Averaging 2.8 per game, Falconer is sixth in the league, while ranking with 3.5 in Big South games.
  • The Highlanders are the only Big South team with two players in the top five in rebounding and conference rebounding. Lydia Rivers is second with 7.8 rpg and White follows in third with 7.7 per game. In league games, Rivers is third with 7.6 and White follows in fourth with 7.4.
  • White finished with a season-high blocks four blocks on Tuesday for 184 in her career, moving into 10th all-time in Big South history.
 
SCOUTING CHARLESTON SOUTHERN
  • During the three-game winning streak, Charleston Southern has limited opponents to under 65 points in each after allowing Big South foes to score 65-plus in the three-game skid before the streak started.
  • The Buccaneers are one of the better scoring teams in the league, ranking third with 64.3 ppg on the season and are second with 64.0 in conference games.
  • Despite ranking in the top half offensively among teams, Charleston Southern sports only one player in double-figures as Njeri Nelms averages 10.2 per game.
  • Charleston Southern has six players averaging seven-plus points per game, including four with eight-plus.
  • The Big South has five teams shooting over 40 percent on the season with the Bucs coming in fifth with a 40.6 shooting clip. Charleston Southern is shooting 42.1 in league action.
  • Defensively, Charleston Southern ranks second in the Big South and 24th nationally with a 27.7 three-point field goal defense. In league games, opponents are averaging a 30.9 mark.
  • Charleston Southern ranks 38th nationally with the Big South's second best field goal percentage defense of 36.9.
  • Weknyne Dumorne is the Bucs presence in the post with 7.4 rpg and a league-best 45 blocks. Dumorne ranks 46th in the country with 2.1 bpg.
 
UP NEXT
  • Radford will host conference rival Liberty Tuesday in the second matchup of the Battle of the Blue Ridge. The contest is slated for a 7 p.m., start.
  • The Flames held off a Radford second half comeback for a 61-56 win on Jan. 28.
  • Radford collected a 76-68 victory in the Dedmon Center a season ago, which snapped Liberty's 12-game winning streak in the series.
  • The last time Radford defeated Liberty in back-to-back seasons came during the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons.
