HORWITZ CONNECTS FOR TWO HOMERS; RADFORD FALLS 20-10

RADFORD, Va. – Radford and Gardner-Webb combined for 30 runs on 28 hits in the lid-lifter of the Big South series. The Runnin' Bulldogs outscored the Highlanders 16-1 in the last five innings for a 20-10 decision.

The Runnin' Bulldogs totaled 11 of their 17 hits from the fifth inning on. However, Radford was limited to four during the span, the Highlanders finished with 11 total hits.

Gardner-Webb opened the game with a Mickey Dugan two-run home run. The Highlanders answered back as Spencer Horwitz connected for the first of his two home runs on the day. Horwitz's no-doubter down the right field line handed Radford a 3-2 lead.

With four home runs on the day, Radford's second came on a Garrett Matheny shot to left-center, pushing the edge to 4-2.

After the Runnin' Bulldogs added a run, Horwitz struck again with his second home run in as many at bats for his third career multi-home run game. The two-homer performance was his first inside Carter Memorial Stadium.

Leading 5-4, Radford plated four more runs in the fourth inning. Kyle Butler added Radford's fourth home run on the day with a two-run shot to begin the frame. Butler's first round-tripper of the season made it 7-4.

Swinging a hot bat of late, Straton Podaras added a RBI single up the middle, while creating a run later in the frame. With runners on the corners, Podaras broke for second with two outs, starting a rundown. The rundown lasted long enough to score Will Harless from third base.

The Highlanders owned a 9-4 lead after four complete innings. Chris Clary added a two-run blast in the fifth as Gardner-Webb started its run. Clary finished with four RBIs, while scoring three.

The Runnin' Bulldogs tallied six runs on four hits in the sixth to take a 12-9 lead. Gardner-Webb added eight more runs with five coming in the ninth for the 20-10 win.

Radford's final run came in the sixth as Horwitz earned his second walk on the day, scoring on an Andrew Szamski triple off the right-center field wall. Szamski's fourth triple of the season gives him the Big South lead.
