RADFORD LOOKS TO BOUNCE BACK AGAINST SAVANNAH STATE ON FRIDAY



SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Radford softball team looks to bounce back with a Friday afternoon game at Savannah State at Lady Tiger Softball Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
 
The game was moved from a doubleheader to just one game due to impending weather around the area.

  • Series: Radford leads 1-0 (Last Meeting: March 14, 2014 | Radford won 6-3)

HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHTS
  • Radford (14-8) fell to North Florida on Wednesday night, 5-1. The Highlanders could only get one runner into scoring position over the last four innings against the Ospreys.
  • The Highlanders have only dropped back-to-back games once this season. Their only consecutive loss came against No. 14 Georgia following a loss to UNC Greensboro.
  • Marissa Gagliano is batting .403 this season with five doubles, both leading the team. The senior leads the Big South in on-base percentage (.529).
  • Talia Douglas is hitting .343 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. She leads the Highlander freshmen in both categories.
  • Sofia Tapia and Hunter Mundy have eight of Radford's 19 home runs as each player has four.
  • Abby Morrow ranks inside the top 10 nationally in shutouts with four (ninth) and walks allowed per seven innings averaging 0.38 (sixth).
  • Radford has two pitchers inside the Big South's top 10 in ERA. Morrow is fifth in the conference with a 1.75 ERA and Kayla Huffman is eighth with a 2.43 ERA.
  • Morrow leads the league in innings pitched and is only eight innings shy of 100.
  • The Highlanders have had success inside the state of Georgia posting a 9-4 record.
  • The team is hitting .244 with 56 runs scored and 15 home runs inside the Peach State.
  • Radford is one of five Big South teams with 14 wins this season.
 
SCOUTING SAVANNAH STATE
  • Savannah State won their first three games by a combined score 25-5. Two of the three wins were against Norfolk State and the other came against South Carolina State in five innings.
  • Since their first three games the Tigers have lost nine straight. Three of their nine losses came against Duke, Purdue and Charleston Southern.
  • The loss to the Buccaneers came on Wednesday night in five innings. The Tigers gave up eight runs in the first two innings.
  • Cortni Jones leads the team with a .462 batting average, two home runs and two doubles. She's slugging .769 with a .464 on-base percentage.
  • Brianna Harris leads the team with 15 hits and 10 runs scored. The senior is batting .441 with a .525 on-base percentage.
  • As a team, Savannah State has a 5.93 ERA with 75 runs allowed and only 36 team strikeouts.
