RADFORD TROUNCES PRESBYTERIAN ON RECORD-SETTING DAY

GAME INFORMATION
  • Score: Radford 21, Presbyterian 4
  • Records: Radford (6-10, 3-4 BSC), Presbyterian (2-15, 0-7 BSC)
  • Location: Cupp Stadium (Radford, Va.)

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's lacrosse team put on a clinic at Cupp Stadium on Saturday, absolutely dominating Presbyterian to the tune of a 21-4 victory that featured plenty of records being broken.

The contest got off to a relatively slow start, with only seven combined goals being scored in the first 18 minutes. Blue Hose attacker Kathleen Gerrits scored with 12:34 on the clock in the first half to pull PC within three at 5-2, but that's when the floodgates opened for the Highlanders.

Radford scored the next eight goals, giving the home team a comfortable 13-2 lead heading into halftime.

The second half wasn't much different as the Highlanders outscored the Blue Hose 8-2 with the clock continuously running thanks to the 10-goal rule, to secure the 17-goal victory. It was the program's second-largest margin of victory, sitting just behind the 18-goal (24-6) beat down of the Delaware State Hornets in 2017.

With the win, Radford matches last season's win total of six and sets a new program record for conference wins in a season with three. With all other games complete in the Big South, Radford will be the No. 5 seed in the Big South Championship and will face No. 4 Campbell in the quarterfinals.

Junior midfielder Callie Bonnel made history in both halves of the game. In the first half she scored three goals to bring her season total to 49, setting a new school record for goals in a single-season. Then in the second half, the Mechanicsville, Md. native scored three more goals to bring her season total to 52 and her career total to exactly 100.

She joins teammate Adrian Rius as the only two players in Radford history to collect 100 goals for their career. Bonnel broke one more record with her first half free position goal, by the way. She now sits alone in Big South Conference history for free position goals scored in a single season with 23, breaking Nicole Beatson's (Winthrop) 2017 record of 22.

Rius was also special on the day, breaking her own school record for draw controls in a season. After posting 92 last year, the Boca Raton, Fla. native won 10 on Saturday to bring her 2018 total to 94.

As a team, Radford took 46 shots to tie their record for most shots taken in a single game.
