GREENVILLE, N.C. – Four first half goals were too much for the Radford women's soccer team as they fell to East Carolina, 5-1, on Sunday night at Johnson Stadium.
The Pirates were hot right out of the gate and scored two goals in the eighth minute. The first came on a header from Jenna Dages and the second was from Grace Doran. ECU maintained possession for most of the half and fired 10 shots compared to Radford's two.
Radford fell behind 3-0 in the 35th minute as Courtney Cash scored. The lead increased in the 37th minute as Carsen Parker converted a PK after a foul was called on the Highlanders in the penalty box.
The Highlanders didn't go down without a fight and just six minutes into the second half; Jessica Wollmann dribbled around a few defenders into the upper right corner of the box and fired a shot that went past the leaping goalkeeper. Wollmann's second goal of the season cut the deficit to three, but ECU increased its lead back to four with a goal in the 62nd minute.
MOMENT THAT MATTERED
ECU scored the go-ahead and eventual game-winning goal in the early going. The Highlanders battled, but didn't have enough scoring chances to recover from the quick deficit.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Radford only fired six shots, with three landing on goal and one converting. East Carolina tallied 22 shots with 10 landing on goal and five converting.

On a night where every player in a Highlander uniform saw the field, six different players took a shot each. Emily Dunn, Emily Cardoso and Wollmann were the three that had shots on frame, with Wollmann's finding the back of the net.
QUOTABLE
"We had a disappointing first half," head coach Ben Sohrabi said. "We have to do better in all facets of the game. It was eye-opening in some ways and we will turn this negative into a positive and improve."
