RADFORD SHINES IN 5-0 ROUT OF WOFFORD

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women's soccer team showcased its overflow of speed on Thursday night, getting in behind the defense five times to cruise past Wofford, 5-0, at Cupp Stadium.

The Terriers (0-2-1) did their best to use a high line to force the Highlanders (1-1-1) offside on the night. It worked to an extent – Radford was whistled for 10 offside calls – but numerous balls over the top and blazing fast wingers on either side of the pitch gave the Highlanders the advantage they needed.

After several close chances, Jessica Wollmann opened the scoring in the 16th minute thanks to an accurate cross from Nelia Perez. The Highlanders then doubled their lead a little over two minutes later as Emily Dunn forced a turnover near midfield and threaded the needle with a ball through the defense to Helena Gonzalez for her first career goal.

Just before halftime arrived, Gabi Paupst found the back of the net off of an assist from Sandra Brackett to push the lead to 3-0. In the 52nd minute, Jordan Lundin got in on the fun with a right-footed rocket from 18 yards out following a takeaway and assist by Natacha Rangel-Ribiero. Then in the 57th minute, Jasmine Casarez put the final touches on the dominating win with a volley in the box that came from Perez as well.

From there, the Highlanders' defense took over and saw the game out without seeing much of a threat from Wofford. The victory marks the first of the season for Radford and gives the team some excellent momentum going forward.

MOMENT THAT MATTERED
Just two minutes and 16 seconds into the match, Casarez connected on a header that hit the crossbar and clanged away to be cleared. Just inches away from giving Radford a 1-0 lead, the near-miss gave the Highlanders plenty of confidence early on and showed them that it could be a great night offensively.

STAT OF THE MATCH
With such a dominating performance, Coach Sohrabi was able to utilize his entire bench and give his younger players some valuable experience playing on the collegiate level. A total of 25 Highlanders saw playing time on the night, including nine true freshmen.
