CASAREZ NETS A PAIR AS RADFORD DOWNS ELON, 3-1

ELON, N.C. – Jasmine Casarez, who is no stranger to multi-goal matches, scored a pair of goals and carried Radford to a 3-1 victory over Elon at Rudd Field on Monday night in Elon, N.C.

The two teams were deadlocked at 0 in the first half, including six shots each, two saves each and two corner kicks each. The second half began like the first until the game was paused in the 55th minute for a 45-minute lightning delay.

Once the teams were back on the field play begin to pick up. With the two teams firing shot after shot, Elon rattled off three straight shots in the 69th, 70th and 71st minute. It was the 74th minute when one of their shots went in. Carson Jones took a shot inside the box that found the back of the net and gave the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.

It wasn't long until the Highlanders answered – 22 second later to be exact – in the 75th minute when Jessica Wollmann fired a strike with the left foot that skyrocketed into the net. Wollmann's fifth goal of the season tied the game at one. Then Casarez took over.

Following back-to-back yellow cards by the Phoenix, Radford took advantage in the 83rd minute. Nelia Perez, as she's done many times this season, was streaking down the right side of the field and found Casarez wide open in the middle of the field. The Moreno Valley, Calif., went top shelf with the shot and gave Radford a 2-1 lead.

One wasn't enough for the senior as she received a pass from freshman Maevyn Jones and froze Valentina Estrada. Casarez headed the shot to the left side of the Elon keeper, who was leaning towards her right and could do nothing as the ball bounced past her. The second Casarez goal came in the 89th minute and was the icing on the cake in Elon.

MOMENT THAT MATTERED
Wollmann's goal was one of the quickest answers this year from Radford and immediately took the momentum away from the Phoenix, despite their match-high 19 total shots. The momentum swing allowed the Highlanders to push the tempo and set up the goals for Casarez.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Casarez recorded the seventh multi-goal match of her career, which is the most of any current Highlander. She last did it against Presbyterian on October 14, 2017.

DID YOU KNOW?
Radford is now 2-0 this season when games have been suspended due to weather. The Highlanders defeated Mount St. Mary's, 2-1, on September 2nd after sitting through about an hour rain delay.

QUOTABLE
"I'm very proud of our team tonight," Ben Sohrabi said. "Winning two road games versus quality opponents shows character, especially two games in three days. We could have put our heads down when Elon went up on us, but our girls response was extremely impressive."
