SECOND HALF GOALS BOOST RADFORD ABOVE APPALACHIAN STATE, 2-0

BOONE, N.C. – A pair of second half goals just two minutes apart boosted the Radford women's soccer team above Appalachian State, 2-0, on Saturday night at Appalachian Soccer Stadium in Boone, N.C.

Radford, now with three wins in a row, took 10 total shots with seven coming in the second half. Two of those found the back of the net. The first came in the 72nd minute when Nelia Perez dribbled down the field and crossed it to the left side of the box to Jessica Wollmann. Wollmann did the rest and scored her fourth goal of the season that gave Radford a 1-0 lead.

Two minutes later, in the 74th minute, Helena Gonzalez extended the lead to two goals when the ball bounced right to her after an Appalachian State player deflected it from just inside the box. Appalachian State (3-4-1) took two more shots for the remainder of the match, but Courtenay Kaplan made a save on one and the second hit the post in the final seconds of play.

The first half saw heavy defense with six shots taken by Appalachian State – a third of them in the first 15 minutes. Kaplan managed to get three saves in the first half and had five total. In the 14th minute Jasmine Casarez almost gave Radford a 1-0 lead, but her shot hit the crossbar and harmlessly bounced away.

MOMENT THAT MATTERED
Wollmann scored her second game-winning goal of the season and now has eight in her career. That goal gave Radford some momentum and eventually led to another score that created a tall task for the Mountaineers to overcome.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Kaplan picked up her third win this season and added her second shutout. Both shutouts she has recorded this season have come in the last three matches.

TWEET OF THE MATCH

QUOTABLE
"I was really proud of our effort tonight," Ben Sohrabi said. "It was a pretty even game the first half, but we turned it up a notch in the second both attacking and defensively. This is a tough place to get a result so a lot of credit to our leadership and older players for setting the tone."

UP NEXT
The Highlanders have a quick turnaround as they travel to Elon, N.C., on Monday and face the Phoenix at 7 p.m.
