60-METER DASH SCHOOL RECORD FALLS AT VMI TEAM CHALLENGE

LEXINGTON, Va. – Another school record went down as the Radford track & field team lit up the competition at the VMI Team Challenge on Saturday.

It was - you guessed it - La'Tisha Chambers who broke the school record in the 60-meter dash for the Highlanders. After tying the school record of 7.65 seconds earlier this season, Chambers ran a 7.70 in the prelims to make it into the finals.

Then she kicked it up a notch, earning a win in the finals while making history with a run of 7.62 seconds. The Covington, Va. native passed Khadija Conda (2001) and Lakei Crews (2014) in the record books. Freshman Denisha Hoosier also had a good day, matching her PR of 7.87 seconds in the 60-meter dash to reach the finals.

Radford got two more athletes in the sprint event finals as freshman duo Emilie Miller and Sharniece White advanced in the 60-meter hurdles. After posting times of 9.18 and 9.33 respectively, Miller and White ran a 9.14 and 9.24 in the finals.

Keeping up with the trend of new personal records, Ryan Paine and Karah Foster set new standards for themselves in the 400-meters. Paine took seventh out of 28 runners with a PR of 58.86 seconds while Foster finished 12th at 59.20 seconds.

In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Kayland Bond bested her previous PR by nearly 15 seconds, finishing first in Section 1 and 10th overall with a time of 10:47.85.

Competing with some very talented throwers, freshman Tayelor Thrasher-Walker stepped up her game and recorded a huge PR in the weight throw. She improved on her previous best of 15.04 meters with a monster throw of 16.41 meters (53'10") to place fourth out of 22 athletes.

Kierra Henderson held things down in the long jump, reaching a season-best 5.22 meters to advance to the finals before adding even more distance to soar 5.39 meters for a new indoor personal record and a fifth-place finish. Then in the shot put, Tenae Washington recorded a new indoor PR of 9.23 meters.

To close out the day, Chancey Gunnell, Karah Foster, Alexis Stafford and Emilie Miller teamed up to place fourth out of 10 teams in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:02.58.
