WOMEN'S HOOPS SET TO HOST UNC ASHEVILLE TO OPEN BIG SOUTH SLATE ON SATURDAY

HIGHLANDER UPDATE
Radford will open their Big South Conference slate against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, who were picked No. 3 in the 2018-19 Preseason Poll. The Highlanders will look to make it three straight on Big South opening day. Radford is 3-2 in conference openers under Mike McGuire. The Highlanders last opened against the Bulldogs during the 2010-11 campaign and came away with an 81-69 win on the road. Radford is 51-24 all-time in the series and are 28-7 at Dedmon. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Radford completed the non-conference portion of their schedule with an 89-77 defeat at the hands of the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers on Wednesday evening at Knott Arena. Senior guard/forward Destinee Walker (18 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals) became the 24th Highlander in program history to score 1,000 points when she drilled a left-corner trey with 1:35 remaining in the opening quarter.  Redshirt junior center Sydney Nunley recorded her second consecutive double-double with 22 points (career-high) and added 11 rebounds, four assists and three blocks.  Junior guard Khiana Johnson (13 points) and junior forward Lydia Rivers (10 points) were also in double-figures.
 
WALKER HITS A GRAND 
Walker became the 24th Highlander to join the 1,000 Point Club at Mount St. Mary's this past Wednesday evening. Walker has reached double-figures in scoring in nine of her last ten contests. She is currently 7th in the league in scoring at 13.5 pg. and is also tied for 10thin rebounding at 6.2 pg.
 
SYD THE KID
Nunley has put together two impressive performances as she continues to fill in for Savannah Felgemacher in the middle.  Nunley posted 19 points and a career-best 14 rebounds in the victory against Shepherd last Saturday and followed that up with a career-high 22 points along with 11 boards at the Mount on Wednesday. The center has converted 15-of-21 field goal attempts (71 percent) over the stretch.

RIVERS AMONG THE NATION'S LEADERS
Rivers is tied for 65th in the country in rebounding (9.1 pg.) and is also tied for 103rd (1.45 pg.) in blocks. She leads the conference in rebounding and is tied for fourth in rejections. Rivers also scored her 500thcareer point at Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday evening.

DEFENSIVE MINDED
Radford is continuing to build on their tradition of great defensive play as they are currently allowing just 59.9 points per game, which is 96th in the NCAA. The Highlanders are limiting opponents to a .372 percent clip from the field (94th in NCAA) and .297 percent shooting from behind the arc (128th in NCAA). 

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
The Bulldogs have lost three straight contests, including a 61-47 setback in their last outing at Mercer on Sunday. Sonora Dengokl is averaging a team-high 13.6 points per game and Nadiria Evans is also posting double-figures at 10.2 ppg.  UNCA averages just 58.5 ppg. but are limiting opponents to only 56.9 ppg.
