WOMEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO CAMPBELL

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – An early second half goal by Campbell proved to be the difference-maker in a 1-0 loss in Buies Creek, N.C., on Saturday afternoon.

The first half began and ended as a defensive battle as the two teams combined for 10 shots – with five apiece. Radford's first shot came in the 22nd minute when Lily McLane ripped a shot that was blocked by the Camel defense.

Campbell already had taken three shots at that point in the half and Radford's defense settled in and held the team to only two shots in the final 23 minutes. Lexi Dean was busy in the half as she came away with three saves in the half and kept the shutout intact.

Her busy day continued as the junior goalkeeper ended with eight saves. She allowed one goal after facing 15 total shots and it came five minutes into the second half. Cam Lockwood took a strike with her left foot from inside the 18-yard box and placed the shot into the top right part of the net for the score.

Radford kept pressing on the offensive end and fired 11 shots in the second half. None of them came as close as Gabi Paupst's shot in the 63rd minute. She fired a strike – her second shot of the day – that hit the crossbar and bounced back into play. Her third shot came in the 78th minute but was blocked by a Camel defender.

Maevyn Jones led the way for Radford with five shots, but none of them were able to convert and the Highlanders couldn't get on the board despite leading with 16 shots. Only two of the 16 shots landed on frame.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Although the Highlanders led the match with 16 shots, only two were on target. Campbell only took 15 shots but landed 60 percent of them on frame.
