CLINTON, S.C. – The Radford men's golf team split a pair of matches Monday at the Musgrove Mill Match Play, marking the first two match play events for the Highlanders this season.
Radford, which won the Musgrove Mill Match Play last year, opened the day by defeating tournament host Presbyterian, 4-1, before falling to Wofford in the semifinals, 3.5-1.5.
Peter Gasperini won both of his matches to pace the Highlanders.
Radford opened the day by winning four of five matches against fellow Big South member Presbyterian. Gasperini won the opening match, 3&1, while
Hunter Duncan followed with a 3&2 win.
Parker See fell in his match, 1-up, but the Highlanders responded with wins in the final two matches, as
Nicholas Taliaferro won, 4&2, and
Patrick Gareiss won, 2&1.
The Highlanders continued their day in the semifinals against Wofford, but the Terriers prevailed in a 3.5-1.5 decision. Gasperini was the lone winner for Radford, taking his match, 4&2. See finished his match all-square to pick up a half-point for the Highlanders, but Wofford took the remaining three matches to beat Radford.
STAT OF THE MATCH
Gasperini went 2-0 on Monday and is now 5-0 overall at the Musgrove Mill Match Play, dating back to last year.
UP NEXT
The Highlanders will play in the third-place match at Musgrove Mill against USC Upstate on Tuesday morning.
