RADFORD, Va.—The Highlanders will conclude the season opening four-game road trip, taking on the Buccaneers. Radford will play ETSU at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21st. This is the 22nd meeting between the two teams.
The Highlanders most recently played the Mountaineers of West Virginia, who received votes in last week's AP Poll.
Sydney Nunley's would-be double-double paced the Radford offense, at 12 points and nine rebounds. Nunley opened the game scoring the first four points for the Highlanders.
As for the matchup against the Buccaneers, ETSU holds the lead in the All-Time series by just one game despite the Highlanders' victory last season. Radford defeated ETSU 79-64 last season with five players in double digit scoring. Returnees,
Khiana Johnson and
Bryonna McClean had 10 and 12 points respectively. For the Buccaneers, returner Erica Haynes-Overton tallied 14 points behind then senior, Britney Snowden at 18 points.
A win on Thursday for Radford would tie the All-Time series at 11 games each, and put the Highlanders back in the win column heading into the home opener next week. An ETSU win would give them an edge in the series of two games, and slide Radford back to a 1-3 start, not seen since the 2014-15 season.
On the records watchlist is Radford's "big-three" of Nunley, Johnson, and
Jen Falconer. Nunley is currently seventh overall for individual career blocks at 96. Johnson is 49 points away from joining the 1,000-point club. Falconer is 14 games away from tying Jada Worthy (2014-18) for career games played.
Head coach
Mike McGuire and his staff have emptied the bench twice so far this season, against Vanderbilt and (RV) West Virginia. The bench for Radford has produced 52 points through the three games played, averaging about 17.3 points per game.
ETSU opened their season at Tennessee, only dropping that contest by four. The Bucs picked up their first win at Liberty by a narrow margin of one. ETSU is currently on a two-game losing streak after falling to Presbyterian and N.C. A&T. In the loss to the Aggies, Micah Scheetz had a career high 26 points.
