Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

CAREER DAY FROM MCCLEAN AIDS RADFORD TO VICTORY OVER ETSU

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.—Making her career debut in the starting lineup today was Bryonna McClean who showed why she earned the go-ahead. Khiana Johnson and Amele Ngwafang also added 22 points collectively to the Radford total. The Highlanders downed the Buccaneers 67-43.

Radford's offense packed a punch in the opening stanza, posting 17 total points from six different players. For the second straight game, Sydney Nunley opened up the scoring for the Highlanders in the paint and from that point on Radford never trailed. With a second to go, Ngwafang's go-ahead layup pushed the lead to six points.

A pair of fastbreak layups from Ngwafang and Johnson were the first points for either team in the second. A jumper from ETSU's Micah Scheetz cut the deficit back to single digits, but moments later Ngwafang's layup returned the lead back to 10. The paint was Radford's go to spot on the court during this quarter. A pick-and-roll set from Aiden Rainford, found Tina Lindenfeld on the low block. Back-to-back layups from Rainford and Ngwafang wrapped up the scoring for the Highlanders in the first half.

Prior to halftime, Radford's defense got it done. The Highlanders were able to hold the Buccaneers to only eight points in the second quarter, while only giving up three more than that to start the game.

After the break, ETSU responded and notched one point more than Radford in the third. The Buccaneers couldn't stop back-to-back baskets from Johnson, who got it done from every spot on the floor. The Highlanders had a pair of possessions that ended in and-ones for McClean and Ngwafang. With 30 seconds left on the clock, floor general Jen Falconer knocked down her second three of the game to increase the lead to 43-34.

McClean came out blazing for the final quarter. She drained a step-back three and momens later Johnson found her during a fastbreak. Also, getting in on the scoring for Radford was Makaila Wilson, hitting a pair of deep balls consecutively. To wind down the scoring for the Highlanders, was a deep three pointer from Lindenfeld and a smooth jumper from Wilson with 22 seconds remaining.

The Buccaneers had only one in double-digits, Scheets. She paced ETSU's offense with 13 points, making the most out of her trips to the free throw line going 5-for-6.

MIGHTY MCGUIRE
Since his arrival in 2013, head coach Mike McGuire's teams have dominated opposing SoCon teams. He is now 5-1 when going up against teams from that conference, and now 2-0 versus ETSU.

ROLLIN' RADFORD
Now having tied the All-Time series at 11 games with ETSU, Radford is now 2-2 on the season. Avoiding a potential 1-3 start, which is a feat not seen since the 2014-15 season.

DOUBLE-DOUBLE TROUBLE
The Highlanders have had three players notched double-doubles in four games played. Joining teammates Nunley and Ngwafang, was Johnson today. Her double-double came via 11 points and 10 assists, tying her career high in that category.

BALLIN' BRYONNA
In her first ever start, McClean did not disappoint. In her 22 minutes played she went 5-for-8 from the field, 3-for-5 from behind the arc, added three rebounds, an assist, a block, two steals, for a total career and season high 14 points.
