RADFORD FALLS TO MOUNT ST. MARY’S (MD.) IN HOME OPENER

RADFORD, Va.—Several Highlanders concluded tonight's matchup in double digits, including a career high showing from Tina Lindenfeld. Mount St. Mary's (Md.) slipped up Radford 75-58, breaking the McGuire era perfect 6-0 record in home openers.

Jen Falconer opened up the scoring for both teams, grinding her way through traffic to drain the jumper in the paint. Back-to-back baskets from Sydney Nunley put the Highlanders ahead of The Mount for a short time. Mount St. Mary's Kendall Bresee's jumper took the premature lead away from Radford and a Nunley free throw tied the opening quarter at seven. Nunley, Amele Ngwafang, and Khiana Johnson also joined in on the scoring for the Highlanders. Radford closed this chapter only trailing three, thanks to a Johnson three-pointer with 47 second to go.

The shooting improved for the Highlanders in the second stanza, with four players scoring multiple times to keep Radford in contention. Buckets came in pairs for Ngwafang, Aiden Rainford, and Lindenfeld. Ngwafang's layup brought the deficit to only one point and on the and-1 play, she knocked down the free throw to tie the game. After falling behind, Lindenfeld's deep ball saw the game tied again at 29. The combination of three balls from Falconer and Lindenfeld kept the game close heading into halftime, only down by five.

After the break, both teams amped up their defensive pressure and saw no basket for around four minutes of play. The Mount broke the scoring drought and added nine points to their cause before Rainford's layup tallied the first points for the Highlanders. Nunley's layup and a Makaila Wilson three-pointer on a fastbreak were the two other offensive possessions for Radford, who entered the fourth now down by double digits.

Mount St. Mary's began to pull away but not before a strong performance at the charity stripe from Ariel Williams. Williams carried her presence to the other end of the court and notched a steal to lead Rachel LaLonde's assist to Rainford's layup. The Highlanders spread the wealth down the stretch with seven different players scoring to close the game. With seconds left on the clock, Wilson sent another deep ball up and knocked it down to bring the deficit to 17.

The Mount had a total of six players notch double digits, being led by Aryna Talor's 14 points and Michaela Harrison's 13 points.

TERRIFIC TINA
Lindenfeld posted career highs in points at 11 points and tied her career highs in three-pointers made at three. She added two rebounds, a pair of assists, and a steal while going 4-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-5 from behind the arc.
