FIRST QUARTER DOMINANCE FALLS JUST SHORT AT MOREHEAD STATE

MOREHEAD, Ky.—The Highlanders notched an explosive opening quarter, scoring 21 in that stanza. However, the Eagles of Morehead State recovered and defeated Radford in Johnson Arena 73-62. 
 
These two teams were as equally matched as they could possibly be, with both defenses championing that aggressive man-to-man coverage. Radford (2-4) got a good first look at the basket but couldn't convert, seconds later a Khiana Johnson jumper got the Highlanders on the board. Radford shot a game-high 56 percent from the field going 9-for-16, and 2-for-3 from deep to shoot 66 percent from behind the arc. From inside the arc Jen Falconer, Aiden Rainford, and Sydney Nunley aided Johnson in garnering points for the Highlanders. Radford also drained a couple of three balls via Johnson and Tina Lindenfeld. The Highlanders added a trip to the free throw line in the mix. Heading into the following quarter, Radford enjoyed a 21-17 lead over Morehead State (3-4). 
 
The pressure for both teams revved with halftime looming in the horizon. Neither team reached the 20-point mark, with the Eagles holding the Highlanders to just 12 points after the opening quarter output. With the lead still theirs, Lindenfeld drained yet another three to increase the lead to five over Morehead State. Amele Ngwafang posted her first points of the game at the charity stripe and went on to score half of Radford's 12 in the quarter. A three-pointer from Dreuna Jackson for the Eagles cut the Highlander lead to just one heading into intermission at 33-32. 
 
With adjustments made the teams retook the court and the respective defenses wouldn't give an inch. The teams made it under the eight-minute mark without a basket, until Rainford's jumper not only silenced the crowd but also the drought. Bryonna McClean responded immediately and took it right to the hoop on a fastbreak layup. Doing what she does best, Ngwafang made her presence known with an and-1 play on the low block to keep the now Morehead State lead manageable at one point. Piling it back on in hopes to keep the momentum alive was Lindenfeld who drained yet another three and Nunley with a layup in the paint. Those two tallied the last baskets for Radford in the third.
 
The Eagles shot right at 20 percent from both the field and from deep in the final quarter. The Highlanders turned it back on and shot almost 27 percent from the field. However, Morehead State made their way to the free throw line twice that of Radford, going 18-for-20 from the charity stripe. The Eagles put up 23 points, only six more than the Highlanders who down the stretch gave Morehead State a scare. Radford scored 13 points in the final four minutes of play, while trapping and getting turnovers on the defensive end. Back-to-back tips to the free throw line for the Highlanders from McClean and Lindenfeld were both successful. 
 
The Eagles added five more points to their cause in the final minute of play to take the game at 73-62. Morehead State had four in double digit scoring with senior Breuna Jackson leading the charge with 17 points.

Lindenfeld has now had back-to-back 11-point games, her newly set career high. Today's contest has her tie her career high in three-pointers made for a third time. Through her 24 minutes played she went 3-for-8 from the floor, 3-for-6 from deep, and 2-for-2 at the charity stripe. Her points were accompanied by a steal, assist, and a pair of rebounds.  

BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
The Highlanders had several hit double digits with Rainford's 10 points, Ngwafang's 14 points, and Lindenfeld's aforementioned 11. Rainford was just a rebound away from her first career double-double, and Ngwafang just one board shy as well. Radford was dominate in the painted area scoring 30 of their points from there to Morehead State's 14. The Highlanders were able to get 15 points off of turnovers with the bench contributing a total of 25 points.

Radford has a couple of days off before traveling to Columbus, Ohio to challenge the Buckeyes on Sunday, December 8th at 2:00 p.m.
