MAKAILA WILSON SETS SEVERAL CAREER HIGHS IN THRILLER VERSUS AMERICAN

RADFORD, Va.—Radford (2-6) returned to the Dedmon Center for just the second home game of the season versus American (3-6). Sophomore Makaila Wilson had a career setting performance, ending the contest with a game-leading 17 points. The game came down to the wire, as the Eagles slipped past the Highlanders 59-55.

The opening quarter would give a great depiction of how the rest of the game would flow; Radford concluded the 10 minutes with a one-point lead over American at 14-13. Four different Highlanders got in on the scoring—Aiden Rainford, Bryonna McClean, Amele Ngwafang, and Wilson. The lead changed a total of three times throughout the duration of this stanza, thanks to Wilson who capped it with back-to-back baskets.

Neither team gave any breathing room in this next quarter of play, as the teams headed into halftime having produced 11 points each. Wilson started off the scoring with a deep three on an assist from Khiana Johnson. Johnson got herself on the board following the dish, via a fastbreak layup. The remaining minutes were spent with the teams going back-and-forth, when one would score the other returned the favor moments later. Sydney Nunley and Jen Falconer combined for six points in the waning moments to see the Highlanders enter the break, up by one point.

After a missed opportunity to open the third by American, Rainford's fastbreak layup increased the lead to three points. The Highlanders were able to garner points from almost every spot on the floor, with three three-pointers and three additional baskets inside the arc after Rainford's. McClean's athletic layup had the score at 42-36, but the Eagles' and-1 play cut the lead to just three.

Johnson split a pair of free throws after both squads had gone scoreless to begin the fourth. American responded quickly and notched a pair of layups to bring the game to 43 all. However, Rainford and Tina Lindenfeld's baskets retook that lead by a margin of five. The Eagles went on to string together a seven-point run which put them back in front, prematurely. Lindenfeld and Wilson drained deep threes, with Wilson's to tie the game up again at 54. Another split trip for Johnson at the charity stripe brought Radford within one with 42 seconds remaining.

The Highlanders attempted two more shots from behind the arc in hopes of tying and or taking the game, but were unsuccessful. The Eagles added three more points to their cause, after a split trip for Jade Edwards at the free throw line.

American had four in double digits, with the offense being paced by Kaitlyn Marenyi with 16 points.

MARVELOUS MAKAILA
For her second consecutive game scoring 10 or more this season, Wilson set career highs in three different categories. Her 27 minutes played led to her 17 total points, which came from 6-for-11 shooting from the floor. And, behind the arc she was 5-for-9 to tie her career high in three-pointers made in a game.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Highlanders got contributions from eight different players today. Lindenfeld was a mainstay on the floor posting nine points, shooting 50 percent from deep. Rainford, Johnson, and Falconer, who made her way back into the lineup, all and ended the contest with six points.
