LAST TIME OUT
Carlik Jones banked in a game-tying three as time expired in regulation to force overtime before draining a game-winning three with 1.8 seconds left in the extra period, lifting the Radford men's basketball team to a legendary 101-98 victory at Hampton on Thursday night.

The possession at the end of regulation started with just eight seconds on the clock. Jones allowed the ball to roll up the court to save time before picking it up, dribbling to the top of the key and letting loose for a shot that bounced off the window and in, stunning the Pirates' crowd.

A hotly contested overtime in which neither team seemed to miss came down to one final possession after a Hampton three knotted the game at 98-all with 28 seconds to go. This time Travis Fields Jr. brought the ball up the floor and got his teammates in position for the game-winning play.

Jones received the ball from Fields and took the ball to the wing where he rose above his defender and found nothing but net to give the Highlanders a crucial victory.

SERIES HISTORY
Radford holds a 24-21 advantage through 45 all-time meetings with High Point including a 78-76 overtime victory that featured Carlik Jones' first career buzzer-beater in the Millis Center last season. The Panthers did get revenge with a 61-60 win in the Dedmon Center the next month, splitting the 2017-18 season series. The last five games between Radford and HPU have been decided by a combined 10 points.

FIELDS' HOMECOMING
Junior guard Travis Fields Jr. played the game of his life in front of his hometown friends and family on Thursday night. The Portsmouth, Va. native scored a career-high 33 points on 12-of-14 shooting including six 3-pointers, making him the first Highlanders to score 30+ in a single game since Cameron Jones dropped 35 on Jan. 20, 2016. He added seven rebounds and six assists in an all-around spectacular performance.

ECLIPSING THE CENTURY MARK
Thursday night's 101-98 thriller at Hampton was only the seventh time in eight seasons under Head Coach Mike Jones that Radford has scored 100 or more points in a game. It has already happened twice this year with the other instance being a 102-69 win over Glenville State back on Nov. 26, 2018.

700 PROGRAM VICTORIES
Thursday night's win marked the 700th win in the history of the Radford men's basketball program. The Highlanders' overall record across all Divisions is now 700-602 including a 281-220 mark in Big South regular season play.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
In their first season under high-profile head coach Tubby Smith, the High Point Panthers are 13-10 overall and are tied for third in the Big South standings at 6-3. In their last two games, they have come away with an 85-69 win against Hampton and a 57-56 win against Campbell, two of the other teams near the top of the conference standings.

Junior guard Jahaad Proctor is the clear cut leader of HPU's program and his stats show it. He leads the team and ranks third in the Big South with 19.0 points per game while contributing 3.9 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game as well. Fellow junior guard Brandonn Kamga also averages double figures with 14.1 points per game. Senior forward Ricky Madison is one of the conference's top rebounders with 8.1 rebounds per contest.

High Point is one of only three teams in the league that average less than 70 points per game as a team, but they more than make up for it on the defensive end with only 66.6 points allowed on average. The Panthers are last in free throw percentage and 3-point percentage, but lead everyone in rebounding margin.

NEXT HOME GAME
The Highlanders host Winthrop on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. in a rematch of two of the top teams in the Big South. Tickets can be purchased on RadfordTickets.com or by calling the Radford Ticket Office at (540) 831-7889 during business hours.
