DAY ONE OF VMI WINTER RELAYS IN THE BOOKS

LEXINGTON, Va. – Survive and advance was the name of the game for the Radford Track & Field team on Friday as several Highlanders qualified for the semifinals and finals of their respective events on Day One of the VMI Winter Relays.

Freshman Emilie Miller recorded a pair of personal records in the 60-meter hurdles. The Waynesboro, Va. native ran an 8.89 in the prelims to advance to the semifinals before crushing that time by crossing the finish line in 8.84 seconds to move on to Saturday's finals. She won her section in both races and was the third overall qualifier in the event.

Fellow freshman Denisha Hoosier also posted a PR in Lexington with a time of 7.84 seconds in the 60-meter dash semifinals after a solid 7.89 preliminary time qualified her for the next round. She had run a 7.87 in back-to-back meets before showing off the results of her hard work this time around.

Those two weren't the only Highlanders to advance for Radford. Junior Tenae Washington made it to the semis in the 60-meter hurdles and junior Kierra Henderson reached the semis in the 60-meter dash.

In the 400 meters, Chancey Gunnell earned herself another PR with a time of 58.47 seconds. She placed sixth out of 45 runners.

Making her collegiate debut, freshman Kiara Price impressed in the shot put. She placed seventh with a distance of 10.10 meters (33'1.75"), nearly matching Tayelor Thrasher-Walker's mark of 10.18 meters which leads the team this season.

Taylor Tinsley wrapped up the day with her best high jump performance of the season. She cleared 1.60 meters (5'3") to beat her previous best of 1.58 meters from the Hokie Invitational on Jan. 19. The mark is just shy of her indoor PR which stands at 1.61 meters.
