RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Friday, March 22nd through Monday, March 25th.


 
 BASEBALL
 

at Charleston Southern - Fri., March 22 at 6 p.m. | Sat., March 23 at 4 p.m. | Sun., March 24 at 1 p.m.

  • Radford returns to Big South action after defeating VMI, 14-5, on Tuesday afternoon in Lexington, Virginia.
  • Southpaw Andrew Nardi tossed six scoreless innings in relief and designated hitter J.D. Mundy drove in three runs, as the Highlanders picked up a non-conference victory against the VMI Keydets on Tuesday afternoon at Gray-Minor Stadium.
  • Nardi, who has not allowed a run in his last 15.1 innings of work, came on in the second inning and shut the door on the hosts after they scored four times in the opening frame.  Nardi (2-0) scattered four hits, did not allow a walk and fanned four batters. The Morganville, New Jersey native got eight fly balls, four ground outs and threw just 56 pitches.
  • Mundy went 2-for-4, doubled and smacked a three-run homer to pace the offense. Right fielder Andrew Szamski went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI and first baseman Spencer Horwitz was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three walks. Second baseman David Bryant went 2-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs.
  • Charleston Southern is 7-15 overall and dropped all three game to Winthrop last weekend.
  • RHP/1B Ryan Stoudemire is batting .310 and leads the Bucs with four homers and 14 RBI.
  • FR Kyle Horton leads the squad with a .329 average and is second on the team with four doubles.
  • FR Max Ryerson has a pair of homers and has driven in 13 runs.
  • LHP Cody Maw has a team-best 2.45 ERA over 33.0 innings of work.
  • RHP Tyler Weekley has a team-best 29 K's in 26.0 innings. 
 
 SOFTBALL

  • The Highlanders head on the road to Gardner-Webb for a weekend series on Friday and Saturday.
  • Radford is split a pair of games with Norfolk State and won the final one, 8-3. The Highlanders matched a season-high three home runs.
  • One of the home runs came from the starting pitcher Jessie Marvin, who had her first three collegiate career at-bats. She went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in the sixth inning.
  • Sydney Fisher continues her hot hitting at the plate with a .424 batting average and 39 hits. The sophomore has a 1.019 on base plus slugging percentage (OPS).
  • Jessie Marvin lowered her team-leading ERA to 2.90 by only allowing three runs – two unearned – against Norfolk State on Wednesday.
  • Gardner Webb is on a three-game winning streak coming into the weekend. The Runnin' Bulldogs outscored their opponents 32-10 in their last three games.
  • Senior Kaylee Wacaster has made up for the absence of reining Big South Player and Freshman of the Year, Katie Prebble, who transferred to South Carolina. Wacaster leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with a .421 batting average and five triples.  
  • Redshirt Sophomore pitcher Brooke Perry leads Gardner Webb with a 10-5 record and an ERA of 2.59.
 
 LACROSSE
 

at Robert Morris - Saturday, March 23 at Noon

  • The Highlanders travel to Robert Morris for one final non-conference tune-up before Big South play begins next weekend.
  • Radford has lived up to its season motto of "chaos", earning 11.86 caused turnovers per game which ranks first in the conference and ninth in the nation.
  • Radford is also very active in loose ball situations, ranking 12th in the country with 22.43 ground balls per game.
  • Robert Morris is riding a two-game win streak including a 20-8 victory over Gardner-Webb and an 18-9 victory at St. Bonaventure.
  • The Colonials are led by sisters Melanie and Mackenzie Gandy, who have combined for 31 goals in 2019.
  • Junior goalkeeper Katelyn Miller ranks eighth in the nation with a .520 save percentage. She has 66 saves and a 9.51 goals allowed average across 384 minutes played.
 
 TRACK & FIELD
 

at Winthrop Adidas Invitational - Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23
Where: Rock Hill, S.C. (Irwin Belk Track & Field Center)

  • Radford heads to a familiar site for its second meet of the 2019 outdoor season. The Highlanders have competed in the Winthrop Adidas Invitational each of the last four years.
  • A total of 37 teams are currently registered for the meet with 1,277 student-athletes expected to compete.
  • Sophomore Chancey Gunnell will look to build on her fantastic start to the season at the 49er Classic last weekend where she posted PR's in the 100m and 200m.
  • The Irwin Belk Track & Field Center will also host the 2019 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

 MEN'S GOLF
 

at William & Mary Invitational - Sat., March 23 through Mon., March 25
Where: Williamsburg, Va. (Golden Horseshoe Golf Club)

  • Radford is back in action after a two-week lay-off. The Highlanders came up a bit short in defending their 2018 Pinehurst Intercollegiate Championship in North Carolina, however, the Highlanders did come home with the 2019 runner-up trophy. 
  • The Highlanders carded a combined score of 296 on the par 71, 6,937 yard course on Saturday to finish with a 3-round combined team score of 888 (+24) (294-298-296)  Davidson won the event as they finished four over par for the tournament with a score of 859. Radford edged third-place Old Dominion (889).
  • Duncan  (72-72-73-217) tied for fourth overall as he shot a 73 on the final day. Duncan also tied for sixth in the field with 37 pars for the tournament. Peter Gasperini (T-11, 74-75-72-221), Tyler Hull (T-22, 75-75-74-224), Ben Ramsey (T-40, 73-78-78-229) and Parker See (T-46, 77-76-77-230) rounded out the scoring for Radford.
  • Hull was also third overall with nine birdies in the tournament.
 
 WOMEN'S TENNIS
 

vs. Presbyterian - Saturday, March 23

  • The Highlanders are home for a match against Presbyterian on Saturday morning.
  • Radford is looking to keep the winning streak alive after coming off a 4-3 win over Longwood on Wednesday.
  • Drousile Dzeubou continues to carry the team with a 10-3 record in singles play.
  • Presbyterian enters with wins in its last three contests.
  • The wins came against Charleston Southern, Campbell and Arkansas State.
 
 MEN'S TENNIS
 

at UNC Asheville – Saturday, March 23 @ 11 a.m. 
Where: Asheville, N.C. (The Asheville Racquet Club Downtown)
Records: Radford (10-2, 2-0 Big South) | UNC Asheville (13-2, 0-0 Big South)
  • The Highlanders will travel North Carolina for a Big South match against UNC Asheville.
  • Radford is coming off a 4-3 victory over Longwood on Wednesday afternoon adding to their win streak, currently at four.
  • Michiel Meekers leads the Highlanders in singles competition wins with a record of 11-1.
  • UNC Asheville is heading into this match with a three-match win streak. Their last win came against Boston, 4-3.
  • Senior Henry Patten leads the Bulldogs with a 9-2 record in singles competition.   
  • UNC Asheville also has the No. 2 doubles team in the country in Patten and Oli Nolan. The duo is 7-0 this season.
vs. Davidson – Sunday, March 24 @ 1 p.m. 
Where: Radford, Va. (Radford Tennis Complex)

  • Radford returns home for a match with Davidson on Sunday afternoon.
  • Davidson has previously beaten Radford's Big South companions in Winthrop and Gardner-Webb, but lost to Presbyterian.  
  • Freshman Brooks Green leads the Wildcats with a 10-4 record. Doubles partners Douglas MacIntosh and Camden Mazzoni lead the team with eight wins.
