TRACK & FIELD POSTS TRIO OF TOP-10 TIMES ON SATURDAY

DAY ONE RECAP

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Radford women's track & field team capped off the 2019 Winthrop/Adidas Invitational in style with a trio of all-time top-10 times with several personal records to boot.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Kierra Henderson, Chancey Gunnell, Denisha Hoosier and La'Tisha Chambers delivered the Highlanders' top performance of the day, placing third overall with a time of 47.17 seconds. The time ranks as the sixth-fastest in program history, giving Radford eight top-10 times in the event in just the last three years.

Gunnell was excellent in the 400 meters earlier in the day, breezing around the track for a time of 56.77 seconds that proved to be a huge lifetime PR and the 10^th-best time ever at Radford. Then Chambers gave Radford another great result, finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.75 seconds.

Freshman Kayland Bond got her feet wet (literally and figuratively) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, running in the event for the first time in her collegiate career. She surpassed expectations right away, taking fifth and running the ninth-fastest time in school history at 11:33.15.

Her fellow freshman distance runner, Chloe Phillips, got the morning started right with a lifetime PR in the 800 meters. The Floyd, Va. native crossed the finish line in 2:26.28 to place sixth.

UP NEXT
The Highlanders head back to the Carolinas next weekend for the N.C. State-hosted Raleigh Relays. The meet is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility.
