RADFORD TRACK & FIELD DOMINATES AT TERRIER RELAYS

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Radford track & field team changed gears and made its way south for the 2019 Terrier Relays, hosted by Wofford College at the Spartanburg High School Track & Field Complex. It turns out the Highlanders must love running in Spartanburg because they recorded a season-high in both personal records and times that will enter the program's all-time top-10!

Junior La'Tisha Chambers once again spearheaded that effort. The Covington, Va. native won the 200-meter dash with a huge personal record of 24.02 seconds that goes down as the second-fastest in school history. Then, she placed second overall in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.02 seconds – the ninth-fastest in school history.

Alongside Chambers, Kierra Henderson, Emilie Miller and Denisha Hoosier stood atop the podium with a time of 46.75 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay. It was the fourth-fastest time in program history and now the top five times ever all include both Henderson and Chambers.

Three different Highlanders earned personal records in the 400 meters on the day. Chancey Gunnell crossed the finish line in 56.92 seconds to win the event and enter her name in the record books with the 10th-fastest time in program history. Karah Foster came in right behind with a PR of 57.96 seconds and Ryan Paine rounded out the trio of PRs with a time of 58.1 seconds.

Freshman Madison Graham represented the Radford throwers well in the discus throw, posting a distance of 41.06 meters (134'8") for another new PR. The mark also ranks as the sixth-best in Radford history with the only athlete above her being Hall of Famer Tiffany Evans.

Kayland Bond blew away the competition in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, winning the event with a new personal record time of 11:28.00. She moves up the record books past Courtney Rice and into fourth all-time.

Chloe Phillips was responsible for setting the tone in the first event of the day, earning a personal record in the 800 meters. Then the quartet of Karah Foster, Ryan Paine, Alexis Stafford and Chancey Gunnell put a cap on things with a second place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in the last event of the day. They ran it in 3:53.81 which is a season best and the eighth-fastest in program history.

UP NEXT
