RADFORD, Va. – Welcome to the Radford Roundup, where fans can find out all the information they need on upcoming Radford Athletics events taking place between Tuesday, April 16th and Thursday, April 18th.


 
 BASEBALL
 

at Virginia - Tuesday, April 16th at 6 p.m.
Where: Charlottesville, Va. (Disharoon Park)
Records: Radford (17-18, 9-6 Big South) | Virginia (21-16, 8-10 ACC)

  • Radford returns to action after dropping two of three games at Big South front runner Campbell over the weekend.
  • Zack Ridgely allowed just two earned runs over six innings to beat Campbell on Friday for his first Big South victory of the season.
  • Bruce Hudson earned his first career save after throwing three shutout innings to seal the win for Ridgely. Hudson lowered his ERA to 0.48 in 18.2 conference innings.
  • Third baseman Matt Roth hit a team-high .308 (4-for-13) with a pair of doubles last week.
  • Seven different Highlanders drove in a run in Radford's 7-5 victory against VMI last Tuesday.
  • Designated hitter J.D. Mundy is tied for the team-lead with seven home runs after smashing a 2-run shot at Campbell on Saturday…He leads the team with nine multiple RBI games.
  • Right fielder Andrew Szamski had his team-leading 12-game hitting streak come to an end on Saturday at Campbell.
  • Radford is 12-0 when leading after seven innings.
  • The Cavaliers lost all three games in their home series against Miami over the weekend.
  • Tanner Morris is batting a team-high .345 and has smashed 19 doubles and four homers.
  • Nic Kent is hitting .325 and has driven in a team-high 29 runs.
  • Paul Kosanovich leads the team with four wins on the mound and owns a solid 3.38 ERA.

  • Radford leads the all-time series by a 14-11 count and are 6-4 over the last 10 games versus the Lancers.
  • The Highlanders are 6-4 at Carter Memorial Stadium against Longwood.
  • Last season, Radford won 2-of-3 games in Farmville, Virginia. 
  • Hunter Gilliam is batting a team-high .391 with four homers and 19 RBI's.
  • The Lancers are just 2-13 on the road this season
  • Tyler Morgan is Longwood's top starter despite a 2-5 record. Morgan, who owns a 3.93 ERA,  has yielded just 47 hits and has fanned 65 batters in 52.2 innings of work.
 
 SOFTBALL

Records: Radford (18-25, 8-7 Big South) | Longwood (28-14, 14-2 Big South)
  • The Highlanders are coming off a series loss to USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C.
  • Jessie Marvin suffered a tough-luck loss in game one on Saturday afternoon with four runs – two earned – on four hits through six inning innings.
  • The Highlanders' offense opened up with five runs on 10 hits in game two, but the Spartans scored nine runs for the 9-5 victory.
  • Radford looks to take the series from Longwood on Wednesday with a pair of games. Longwood took game one, 4-0, as Radford only managed to get four hits.
  • Sydney Fisher still leads the team with a .408 batting average and 62 hits.
  • Hannah Medlam and Talia Douglas are each batting .333 with 90 combined hits.
  • Longwood won the series against Charleston Southern and still remain in first place of the Big South.
  • Offense hasn't been the strong suit for Longwood, and they rank seventh in the Big South with a .268 team batting average.
  • However, pitching has been key as they rank third in the conference with a 3.38 ERA.
  • Sydney Gay has an 9-7 record with a 2.95 ERA and 61 strikeouts through 103.1 innings of work.

 LACROSSE
 

at Winthrop - Wednesday, April 17th at 4 p.m.
Where: Rock Hill, S.C. (Eagle Field)
Records: Radford (3-9, 2-2 Big South) | Winthrop (6-9, 3-1 Big South)
  • Radford is 1-1 in road games during conference play this season including a 25-3 victory at Presbyterian on April 3
  • The Highlanders played Winthrop extremely close in last year's meeting, falling 9-12 at Cupp Stadium despite a career-high four goals from Jennifer Shield
  • Senior midfielder Emma Rogers is the first Highlander to pass the 40 points mark this season, posting 26 goals and 15 assists through 12 games so far
  • Junior goalkeeper Maddie Mashewske has started Radford's last seven games, making 59 saves over that span including a season-high 12 at Robert Morris
  • The Eagles are led by sophomore midfielder Lauren Morris who has 39 goals and 20 assists for 59 points on the year
  • Redshirt senior Alaina Girani has been great this season, leading the Big South in saves (157), saves per game (10.47) and save percentage (.464)
  • As a team, Winthrop ranks second in the Big South with 12.2 goals allowed per game and a -2.2 scoring margin
  • They were picked to finish third in the 2019 Big South Preseason Poll, just barely in front of the Highlanders
 
 WOMEN'S TENNIS

Records: Radford (12-8, 5-4 Big South)

  • Radford clinched the six seed and take a four-match winning streak into the Big South Conference Championship, which will be played right here at the Radford Tennis Complex.
  • The Highlanders will take on No. 3 Gardner-Webb on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
  • Radford defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs 4-3 in their last meeting on April 6.
 
 MEN'S TENNIS
 

2019 Big South Championship
Where: Radford, Va. (Radford Tennis Complex)
Records: Radford (14-6, 5-3 Big South)

  • The men's tennis team will open the Big South Championship on Thursday at 9 a.m., against No. 4 Presbyterian.
  • Presbyterian was the only team to beat the Highlanders at home this season in a high intensity match on April 7.
  • Radford looks to get revenge on the Blue Hose in the opening round and erase the two-match losing streak.
