HIGH POINT EVENS SERIES DESPITE PRODUCTIVE OUTING FROM HUDSON

RADFORD, Va. – Despite a season-high five strikeouts, Bruce Hudson did everything he could to keep the Radford baseball team within reach, but they ultimately fell, 3-1, to High Point on Friday night at Carter Memorial Stadium.

The relief pitcher was called on at the end of the sixth inning and only allowed two hits and a walk for the remainder of the game. He surrendered a double in the seventh and eighth innings but picked up multiple strikeouts in the same frames to get out of the jams unscathed.

Radford was down to its final three outs when J.D. Mundy stepped up to the plate. He blasted a stand-up double to straightway center to put the Highlanders in striking distance. He moved to third on a groundout to the right side of the infield. After a strikeout, David Bryant reached on an error and extended the game as Mundy crossed the plate for the Highlanders first run of the night.

Quickly after the run scored, High Point's Jonny Vizacaino shut the door with his seventh strikeout of the night leaving Bryant at second base.

Andrew Nardi suffered the tough luck loss after providing a quality start. The senior, who made his final start at Carter Memorial Stadium, allowed three runs on six hits through six innings.

Three of his hits allowed came in the third inning that was highlighted by a Brady Pearre two-run home run, which put High Point ahead 2-0. Pearre plated the third Panther run in the fifth inning with a single through the left side.

Radford's first hit came from Colby Higgerson in the third inning and its best chance to tie the game came in the seventh. Trailing 3-0, Matt Roth hit a one-out single to center field and Bryant followed it up with a six-pitch walk. Both runners moved into scoring position on a balk, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.
