WOMEN'S SOCCER TOPS WOFFORD, WINS THIRD STRAIGHT

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Radford women's soccer team improved to 5-1 on Sunday afternoon with a 2-1 victory over Wofford at Snyder Field.

Radford fired 11 shots in the first half and the 11th is the one that found the back of the net. Reese Degnan set up Lily McLane for a go-ahead goal in the 43rd minute. The sophomore crossed the ball into the box from the right side of the field. The ball found its way to McLane with a wide-open goal. She shot the ball into the top part of the net for the score, giving Radford a 1-0 lead before heading into the locker room.

The Highlanders came back out and only took four shots in the second half but extended their lead in the 60th minute. Brianna Oliver picked up her second goal as a Highlander and it eventually became the game-winner.

The scrappy Terriers scratched and clawed their way back into the game with five second half shots and one goal. Katie Gilligan cut the Highlander lead in half with the score in the 80th minute. Wofford took two more shots but never scored through the final 10 minutes of play thanks to Lauren Seedlock, who relieved Courtenay Kaplan in the 83rd minute and recorded two saves.

TEAM LEADERS
Kaplan led the way defensively with five saves through 83 minutes in goal while a quartet of starts had a team-high three shots. McLane, Nicole Ray, Nelia Perez and Izzy Armstrong had 12 of the 15 shots. Degnan and Oliver tacked on a shot each, while Degnan had an assist and Oliver had a goal.

STAT OF THE MATCH
Radford tallied 15 shots, the second most this season, but have taken a total of 35 the last two games. That is the most shots the Highlanders have taken in a two-game span through the first six games of the season.

QUOTABLE

"Today was a complete team performance," Ben Sohrabi said. "We played everyone we brought and the level stayed consistent. The heat was a huge factor so we had to call on a lot of players to keep us fresh. We moved the ball extremely well today and I think we're improving each time out."

UP NEXT
The Highlanders will continue their road trip, meeting ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn., on Friday at 7 p.m.
