RADFORD HOSTS WINTHROP IN PRIME TIME MONDAY NIGHT MATCHUP

RADFORD, Va. – The final two unbeaten teams in the Big South will meet inside the Dedmon Center on Monday night as the Radford men's basketball team hosts Winthrop at 7 p.m.

Radford (10-7, 5-0 Big South) has a seven game-winning streak and took down previous Big South unbeaten Presbyterian on Saturday. The Highlanders used hot shooting and solid defense to knock off the Blue Hose. Radford ended the game making eight of its final 11 field goals and held the Blue Hose without a field goal for a 5:36 stretch late in the second half.

The Highlanders tallied a 53.6 shooting percentage and went 4-for-10 from beyond the arc in the second half. All four 3-pointers came from Donald Hicks, who tied a career-high with 19 points. He also brought in a season-high seven rebounds. Carlik Jones, Travis Fields, Jr., and Hicks combined for 50 of the team's 75 points against the Blue Hose.

For Jones, he tallied his ninth 20-plus point game on Saturday and picked up seven rebounds and six assists. He is averaging 21.6 points through the last three games and is second in the Big South with 18.9 points per game this season.

Fields Jr., continued his streak of double-digit points pushing it to six straight games after tallying 11 against the Blue Hose. He led the way with seven assists and ranks sixth in the conference averaging 3.0 assist per outing.

Hicks has heated up from beyond the arc in his last two games with eight 3-pointers going 8-for-19 (42.1 percent). He knocked down a season-high five in his last outing against Presbyterian with three in the game before that against USC Upstate.

Radford has only allowed a league-lowest 62.4 points through the first five conference games and leads the league with 63.6 points allowed per game overall. Opponents are only shooting 40.8 percent against the Highlanders and Radford is 8-0 this season when holding opponents to less than 40 percent from the floor. Along with the lowest field goal percentage allowed, the Highlanders have the second-lowest opposing 3-point field goal percentage (30.7).

Radford holds a 41-36 all-time record against Winthrop. The Highlanders defeated the Eagles twice last season and have won three straight. Radford has won 22 of its 41 games against Winthrop inside the Dedmon Center.

The other undefeated team in league play has also won seven straight and has put up some staggering offensive numbers. Winthrop leads the league with 82.7 points per game, which ranks sixth nationally. WU is averaging 94.4 points through the first five league games.

Josh Ferguson leads the team with 12.8 points per game and ranks third in the Big South in rebounds per game with 6.8. Hunter Hale is right behind him with 12.4 points per game and Chandler Vaudrin is the third player averaging double-digit points (playing significant minutes) with 10.7.

The Eagles have hounded the glass and rank 17th in the country with 41.1 rebounds per game. 13.5 of them have come on the offensive end, which ranks 15th in all of NCAA Basketball. Both also rank first in the Big South.

Vaudrin leads the league with 6.1 assists, just 0.7 more than Radford's Jones. Vaudrin is the team's only player with a triple-double this season after tallying 10 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in the league-opening win over Longwood on Jan. 2. He nearly averaged a triple-double over the first two games of Big South action as he posted 16 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists at Campbell.

The first 250 Radford students in attendance will receive a free Radford-branded wall flag.

Monday's game can be seen on ESPN3 or heard live online through Stretch Internet or radio outlets, WRAD 101.7 FM and WVRU 89.9 FM.
