RADFORD FOURTH QUARTER MOMENTUM FALLS SHORT VERSUS CAMPBELL

RADFORD, Va.—Radford (8-11, 6-4 Big South) hosted the league leading Campbell (14-5, 9-1 Big South) on Tuesday night. The Highlanders' fourth quarter momentum carried them back into the game but fell just short against the Fightin' Camels, 43-32.
Sydney Nunley's bucket to start the fourth brought the deficit to 17 points but Campbell answered with 6-0 run to push the lead back up to 21 points. That didn't discourage Radford, and a layup in the paint from Aiden Rainford ignited a huge rally. In total, the Highlanders responded with a 16-0 that took up the remaining 5:05 of the period. Rainford, Jen Falconer, and Amele Ngwafang led the way in this momentum shifting stanza. Radford had now closed the gap between them and Campbell to seven points, forcing a Camel timeout.
Now in a clock management situation, the Highlanders were forced to draw quick fouls to elevate elongated Camel possessions. With five trips to the free throw line, Campbell converted on all five and extended their lead to 12 points with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.
A layup in the paint by Ngwafang gave Radford a nice breath in the closing moments of the game, but Campbells Taya Bolden sealed the contest with a split trip to the line.
Radford outscored Campbell in the second half, 24-21, and increased their overall shooting to 32 percent while holding the Camels to 33.3 percent.
The Highlander defense in the first period only gave up nine points, but were unable to garner no more than two for themselves. The shooting woes continued in the second period as Radford entered halftime with only eight points to the Camel's 22. Campbell was shooting 31 percent from the field and had drained six three-pointers. In comparison, Radford was only 2-for-22 from the field but was 67 percent from the charity stripe.
Kianna Speight led the way for Campbell with her 11 points, and was the only double-digit scorer for the Camels.
Ngwafang was one of the driving forces for Radford off the bench, producing 12 points and grabbing several boards through 22 minutes.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHT
On the night of establishing a new program record for games played at 124, Falconer came alive for the Highlanders in the second half. Her contributions of eight points, two steals, an assist, and two rebounds helped lead the fourth quarter rally. Falconer was 3-for-6 from the floor and 50 percent from the three-point line.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
On paper these teams ended the contest with similar stat lines. Radford tallied 16 points in the paint to Campbell's 10. Points off turnovers favored the Camels by only one point, at 11. Second chance points and fast break points both went to the Highlanders, who notched four points from both situations. The benches produced 12 points for their respective teams.
