SECOND HALF RALLY FALLS SHORT AT HIGH POINT
1/6/2020 10:35:00 PM | Women's Basketball
HIGH POINT, N.C.—A slow start for Radford (4-8, 2-1 Big South) was surpassed by a 38-point second half rally that fell just short at High Point (4-9, 2-2 Big South), 68-58.
The Highlanders outscored the Panthers 38 to 24 in the latter stanza, holding High Point to only eight points in the third. This rally pulled Radford out of the 24-point deficit accrued in the first half. Distribution of the offense was key in the climb back into contention, with six different players scoring for the Highlanders. With 31 seconds left on the clock, Tina Lindenfeld drained a pair of free throws to cut the Panther lead to 16.
Radford built upon this momentum heading into the decisive fourth and final period of play. Bryonna McClean and Aiden Rainford were able to start the Highlanders off with back-to-back baskets. Jen Falconer and Makaila Wilson teamed up to drain consecutive three-pointers moments later, this cut the Panthers lead to seven.
Wilson came alive down the stretch and aided in trimming the High Point lead in the waning moments. Her fastbreak three ball and paint jumper were paired with a Falconer fastbreak trey, which cut the lead to six.
The Panthers pulled away from the Highlanders with six trips to the charity stripe, and were able to convert four times.
The first half was slow for this streaking Radford team, putting up 10 points in both periods prior to the break. High Point doubled that output in the first, and added four more to it in the following period.
Wilson concluded the contest with 13 points, with Lindenfeld adding nine more to the Radford cause.
Camryn Brown and Jenson Edwards both led the way for High Point with 14 points each. Brown neared a triple double with nine assists and eight rebounds.
HIGHLANDER HIGHLIGHT
The scrappy Falconer returned to her usual rebounding self and notched seven boards to go along with her six assists, six points, and steal. Through her 34 minutes played, she had an +5-efficiency rating.
